We suggest once again analyzing what the 2023-2024 school year will be like, when schoolchildren will have rest periods in the spring, who sets these dates, and why spring breaks do not coincide during quarters and trimesters.
School year structure
A document called "The Structure of the School Year" is approved by each educational institution, as schools are given autonomy in the distribution of vacation periods and study time.
Important! For most regions, the vacation schedule offered by local authorities is advisory and not mandatory. The exception is the Moscow region, for which a single school schedule for the quarter system was established last year.
Unchanged for all schools in the upcoming school year. year are the following rules:
- start account - September 1, 2023 (Friday);
- completion of studies for everyone who does not take the GIA - May 25, 2024 (Saturday);
- winter (New Year's) rest period - at least 7 days according to the production calendar (from January 1 to January 7);
- in total for the entire academic year (excluding summer) students must rest for at least 30 calendar days;
- each rest period must be at least 7 days;
- summer holidays cannot be less than 60 days.
As you can see, the basic norms say almost nothing about the autumn and spring vacation periods, since their dates depend on the system by which education is provided in a particular school.
Quarter system
Traditional for many countries, well known to every native of the USSR, the system of quarters is still widespread today. Its peculiarity is the division of the year into 4 blocks (quarters), separated by three vacation periods:
- 1st Quarter - September 1st to October 29th, 2023 (8 weeks);
- 2 Quarter - Nov 7 to Dec 31, 2023 (8 weeks);
- 3 Quarter - January 9 to March 24, 2024 (11 weeks);
- 4 quarter - from April 1 to May 25, 2024 (8 weeks).
Thus, spring will give schoolchildren only one vacation period.
Recommended schedule indicates that spring break in 2024 will take place from March 25 to March 31, 2024
The last school day of the 3rd quarter will be:
- at the "five days" - Friday, March 22;
- at "six days" - Saturday March 23.
Trimester system
In an innovative modular system, quarters have been replaced by trimesters. The educational process will traditionally begin and end on September 1 and May 25, but the year will be divided into 3 trimesters and 6 modules:
- 1st trimester - from September 1 to November 19, 2023 (5 + 5 weeks);
- 2nd trimester - from November 24, 2023 to February 18, 2024 (5 + 6 weeks);
- 3 term - from February 26 to May 25, 2024 (6 + 6 weeks).
So the second (winter) accounting period for trimester schools will end on February 16 or 17 (on Friday or Saturday, respectively), and the February holidays will be mandatory for all students. The third trimester will include 12 academic years. weeks divided by 6 + 6 holiday weeks.
In the trimester schedule, spring break 2024 should start on April 8 (Monday) and last until the date of April 14 (Sunday).
We remind you that all dates are indicative and find out exactly when your school will have spring break by visiting the official website of the educational institution. The school management is obliged to publish the current school vacation schedule on its information portal and promptly notify all participants in the educational process if, for any reason, school holidays in the spring of 2024 are postponed.
GIA 2024
For graduates of 9th and 11th grades, spring will bring not only the joy of a short rest period, but also intense preparation for exams.
The schedule for the GIA in 2024 will be as follows:
