Few people know, but you can even build crafts from egg trays with your own hands.
This material is often underestimated, however, with the help of such an inexpensive and affordable material, you can assemble a rather beautiful and unusual product.
Papier-mâché recipe
Papier-mâché crafts from egg trays are the most popular use for this material. Such a product can be used outdoors or indoors with high humidity.
The main thing is to prepare the mass for creating papier-mâché according to a specific recipe. It will require the following ingredients:
- Egg trays, you can take material from egg cells for crafts;
- A saucepan where you can knead the mass;
- Hot water;
- Mixer;
- PVA glue;
- Putty.
Operating instructions:
- Egg trays are torn into small pieces and placed in a saucepan;
- Then the paper chips are poured with boiling water and cooked over medium heat;
- After 30 minutes have passed, you can remove the pan and cool the mass. Beat it with a mixer to make a mushy mixture;
- Then boil for another 15 minutes;
- Remove from the stove and beat again to make the structure more uniform, cool it;
- The warm mass must be squeezed out through cheesecloth or mesh;
- Take two parts of PVA glue and one part of water, knead, gradually adding putty to get the consistency of thick sour cream;
- Now you need to connect the soaked trays and the resulting consistency from glue and putty, mix everything thoroughly;
- The mass is ready. It must be used within an hour, otherwise the mixture will harden and nothing can be done from it.
Vase
Since the recipe for papier-mâché is now known, you might think about what crafts can be made from an egg tray using this material. You can try to start with a decorative and functional item - a vase.
Materials that will be needed:
- Papier mache;
- Glass or plastic bottle with smooth edges and wide mouth;
- Styrofoam;
- Stationery knife;
- Glue, scotch tape;
- Toilet paper;
- Paints and brushes.
Operating instructions:
- On the foam, you need to circle the bottle along the contour - this will be the base. In order to give the vase an interesting shape, you need to supplement the contour with lines that you want to see in the finished product;
- Additional parts with bends are cut out of the foam and glued to the bottle with scotch tape;
- The bottle is ready for papier-mâché coating. It is applied in one layer and the workpiece is allowed to dry;
- After the layer has dried, the material is applied to the bottom, the neck, papier-mâché is applied to those places where the first layer did not lay down very well;
- Stucco is made of toilet paper. To do this, the paper needs to be twisted, forming a pattern from the bundles. The stucco molding must be glued to the vase blank using PVA;
- When all the layers are dry, the decorations are well fixed on the surface, you can proceed to the final stage - design. The vase is painted with paints, you can stick some kind of decor in the form of beads or sequins.
Garland
This egg tray craft workshop is pretty simple, so you can learn it with your kids.
Materials that will be needed:
- Egg trays;
- Paints;
- Long and strong thread for the garland;
- A thread and a needle, so that it is more convenient to thread the thread for the garland through the elements;
- A wooden base so that you can tie threads with a garland to it.
Operating instructions:
- The lattice of eggs is cut in such a way that each cell is separate from the others;
- Each cell from the edge must be cut along about half the height;
- Now you need to bend the cut parts and trim the ends in the form of a triangle;
- You can start painting each element. Gouache is better suited for this purpose, because it is denser and requires less water for it. This will not deform the garland lanterns;
- Each element must be strung on a thread or fishing line, several threads must be made, albeit of different lengths and with a different number of elements;
- Now all the threads with lanterns need to be fixed on a wooden base, and then, in turn, hang it somewhere and admire the decoration.
Crocodile
You can even choose a whole toy as a craft. Egg paper trays make a very funny crocodile.
Materials that will be required for the craft:
- Two egg trays, 10 pieces each;
- Glue;
- Green paint;
- Red paper;
- 2 toilet paper rolls.
Operating instructions:
- Divide the trays into two parts, cutting off the lids from them;
- Leave one tray with cells for the body, and cut the second into two parts. In one of them 6 cells remain, in the second - 4;
- Cut the toilet paper rolls in half, paint them green. Draw fingers with claws below;
- Paint the trays green and dry;
- Now you need to start assembling the crocodile. You need to glue the legs to the body in pairs, shape the head. For the lower jaw, you need to take most of the cell, for the top - a smaller one;
- Draw eyes, you can cut and glue teeth in the mouth, a tongue made of red paper.
Flowers

- Glue;
- Paint;
- A long stem skewer or a branch made of paper.
Operating instructions:
- The convex parts must be cut off from the trays. Cut each part lengthwise into 8 parts, rounding the ends. Thus, from the cells you get a calyx of a flower with petals and a center;
- Now you need to color the flower cup. The middle should be yellow, like a real chamomile, and the petals should be white. You can make gerberas instead of chamomile, they are similar in structure, but you can already make any color;
- The flower itself must be attached to the stem, attaching additional leaves. You can pierce the middle of the flower and insert the wire. The end of the wire, which will protrude in the middle, can be masked by gluing something bulky in the middle, for example, a bead or fabric.
Plastic trays are also suitable as material. True, it will be more difficult to paint them; you can use spray paint for this purpose.
