US Presidential Election 2024: presidential candidates, date

In the United States, the next (already 60th) presidential election is scheduled for 2024, and we propose to discuss what is known about this at the moment - what will be the date of the event and which candidates can compete with Biden in the upcoming presidential election .

Date

The 60th US presidential election will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

If, according to the results of the will of the people, Joe Biden is replaced by another applicant, then America will receive the 47th president.

Electoral votes

Important! The next US presidential election, announced for 2024, will traditionally be held on the principle of indirect voting.

In each of the 50 states, the people will vote, giving the final decision to a certain list of electors. And the Electoral College, already created in this way, will determine who will take the office of President and Vice President of America in 2024. A total of 538 electors must be selected from all regions, but the number of "electoral votes" from each particular state may vary from year to year depending on the population.

Important! To win, a candidate must receive a simple majority of the Board's electoral votes.

How does it work in practice? The potential winner needs to “win” first at the local level, because the “Winner Takes All” rule applies at the “intrastate” voting stage.That is, if a state has the right to nominate 25 "electoral votes" , and one of the participants gains 51% of the votes in the first stage, then in fact, all 25 members of the Electoral College will have to vote for him in the main stage.

Thus, for those who will run, it is important to get not 50% of all US residents, but more than 50% in those states that have more "electoral votes" .

2024 Candidates

The full list of politicians who will decide to take part in the 2024 elections will be known after the start of official registration, but potential US presidential candidates have already been identified.

Joseph Robinette Biden

  • Date of birth: November 20, 1942
  • Party: Democratic

The current American president officially announced in October 2022 that he had decided to run for a second term. Kamala Harris is running for Vice President on Biden's team.

Many experts in the US believe that Biden has every chance of winning the presidential election in 2024, as he is now supported by the richest people in the country. But what will be the attitude of the people closer to the end of the next election race, it is difficult to predict, because the rating of the current head can be significantly affected by the situation with the conflict in the center of Europe.

Donald John Trump

  • Date of birth: June 14, 1946
  • Party: Republican

Since 1988, Trump has been considered a potential candidate in every election. The ex-US President has already stated that he plans to run for office in 2024 in order to raise the country, which has been steadily sliding into the abyss of crisis in recent years.

The former president is supported by many, despite the following facts:

  • outrageous;
  • status of the richest of all US presidents;
  • lack of experience (before the first term, Trump did not hold any military or public office);
  • two impeachments.

Also, many recall the fact that in the previous elections, Trump won 56.88% of "electoral votes" , but in reality less than 50% of Americans voted for him. At the same time, in 2020, the Trump team stubbornly tried to challenge the election results, not recognizing Biden's victory. In fact, the Ex-President did not admit his loss, saying that he would leave the White House, because he simply could not provide an evidence base confirming his case.

Nominated

If the representatives of the Democratic Party are still silent, pinning their hopes on the incumbent president, then among the Republicans there are already many politicians who compete with Trump for the right to take the presidency. They have already announced their decision:

  • Adam Kinzinger;
  • Asa Hutchinson;
  • Howard Stern;
  • Kanye West;
  • Chris Christie;
  • Larry Hogan;
  • Larry Elder;
  • Mike Pence;
  • Mike Pompeo;
  • Marjorie Taylor Green;
  • Nikki Haley;
  • Ted Cruz;
  • Tom Cotton;
  • Elizabeth Cheney;
  • Andrew Jan.

Public opinion

Although the date for which the 2024 elections are scheduled is still quite far away, the US is already in a hurry to analyze which of the possible contenders America sympathizes with more. Quite often, you can find another survey on the network from leading or little-known analytical agencies, but their results vary greatly.

However, almost all polls unanimously declare that two contenders remain leading - Trump and Biden. Their results range from 42-50%.
