Thoughtfulness and artistic imagination often allows owners to preserve old things, giving them a second life. You should not rush to throw out burned-out incandescent lamps, because you can make many original and useful interior items from miniature glass figures.
The bulbs can be used without prior preparation or after removing the metal base.
Preparing lamps for use
For some crafts from do-it-yourself bulbs, you will need to first remove the base from the incandescent lamp, for example, if you plan to make an original flask for plants.
In some cases, it is also necessary to melt the bottom of the glass bulb in order to give it the desired shape or to make an additional hole in the product.
Instructions on how to prepare consumables for independent work:
- Using pliers, disconnect the contact at the top of the base.
- For the next steps, you will need to use heavy gloves to reduce the risk of injury.
- Carefully break the glass loop around the insulator. Then, using tweezers, remove all the filling from the lamp (filaments, wiring).
A gas burner must be used to melt the material. The flame is directed exactly to the selected area, and as the glass heats up, give the surface the proper shape with a skewer or metal spatula.
If you need to make an additional hole, slightly push apart the melted edges of the material with a spatula.
Decorative flask with plants
The most common use of incandescent lamps after the end of service is the manufacture of decorative souvenirs for the interior.
Instructions on how to make a craft from a light bulb:
- The metal base and filaments are removed according to a known technique. A small hole can be made at the bottom of the lamp.
- A layer of decorative stones, moss, shells is placed inside.
- Artificial flowers can be placed on the surface of the stony layer, which do not require constant maintenance.
Instead of artificial flowers, such souvenirs may contain living plants, however, not all cultures are able to grow and develop in confined spaces.
For this reason, you should approach in detail the choice of a plant for planting.
A toy with a surprise inside
Beautiful toys in the form of a "magic ball" are often brought from long trips. Probably every child or adult has watched how beautifully shiny flakes of artificial snow fall when turning such a souvenir.
An interesting craft can be made with your own hands from an ordinary incandescent lamp. For creative work, you will need a transparent lamp, any cork (rubber or metal foil), large sparkles for decoration, a toy you like, a twig, water and glycerin.
Instructions on how to make a craft from old light bulbs:
- Using tweezers, the filaments and wiring are removed, but the base itself is left.
- A hole must be made in the center of the prepared plug.
- A strong wire is threaded into the hole, one end of which is fixed on the inside. At the end of the work, the other end of the metal wire is wrapped around the neck of the lamp.
- Any toy you like is placed inside a glass flask (it can be twisted from a wire).
- The future toy is filled with a mixture of water and glycerin (there should be 2 times more water), and then large sparkles are added to the resulting mixture.
A plug is installed in the metal base, the remaining end of the wire is wrapped around the neck (neck) of the lamp. To make the toy airtight, the wire is fixed with glue.
Christmas toys
On New Year's holidays, each parent strives to decorate the house in an original and tasteful way. Old lamps are the best fit for this idea.
For work, you will need red felt, acrylic paints and brushes, chenille wire for making a loop or crochet. Step-by-step instructions for making a snowman from a light bulb:
- The lamp should be washed and dried thoroughly.
- White paints are applied to the surface of the material. With acrylic paints in red or blue, they create the image of a snowman (buttons, face).
- A hat and a checkered scarf can be sewn from felt (or any other textile).
- A loop is made of chenille wire, which will hold the toy on the Christmas tree. Such souvenirs can decorate a house in the form of a garland, which is facilitated by the light weight of incandescent lamps.
Another interesting way to decorate a festive toy is to apply PVA glue to the surface of a glass bulb.
On top of the adhesive, small foam crumbs or any other sprinkling (for example, with a beautiful pearlescent sheen) is applied. The metal base in this case can act as a snowman's hat.
Crafts from LED bulbs
Today, not all apartment owners use standard incandescent bulbs.
- To create original crafts, LED bulbs can also come in handy.
- For example, you can make a bright lamp from a tall glass and 3-4 paws of different colors.
- Painting with paints on glass will add a unique design to the future craft.
