Despite the fact that car dealerships in many countries have not yet resumed their work, many automakers have already presented the 2021-2022 model year crossovers, telling what the new items will be of interest to motorists and what their price will be in the markets of Europe, Asia, the USA and Russia.
We bring to your attention a list of the most anticipated crossovers that should appear in showrooms in the second half of 2021 or 2022.
Audi Q4 e-tron
Audi has unveiled the compact electric SUV Q4 e-tron. Moreover, along with the regular version, the Q4 Sportback e-tron in the cross-coupe style is presented at once.
Externally, the Q4 e-tron is almost indistinguishable from the concept car of the same name two years ago. The novelty is designed in the corporate style of Audi. From the front, it resembles a scaled-down flagship Q8 crossover. Instead of a radiator grill, a panel imitating it is used, behind which the components of the semi-autopilot system are hidden. Above the front and rear arches, the volumetric undershooting draws attention. What makes the Sportback different is the original rear end with a sloping roofline.
Several versions are available for the crossover:
- Q4 35 E-tron - basic version with rear electric motor (170 hp) and 52 kWh battery. The power reserve is 335 kilometers, the acceleration time from standstill to 100 km / h is 9 seconds.
- Q4 40 E-tron the same electric motor is used, but "overclocked" to 204 hp. Thanks to this, acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h is already 8.5 seconds. Plus, the 77 kWh ABK provides up to 508 kilometers of mileage on a single charge.
- Q4 50 E-tron a front electric motor is added. The total power is 299 hp. Such a car accelerates to "hundreds" in 6.2 seconds. The power reserve with the same capacity (77 kWh) has been reduced to 475 kilometers.
The Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron will be delivered to the Volkswagen assembly line in Zwickau, Germany this year. Prices in Germany start at 41,900 euros (approximately 3.9 million rubles at the current exchange rate). Supplement for Sportback - 2,000 euros (approximately 185,000 rubles). A little later, the crossovers should reach Russia.
Mazda CX 3
The creators have tried their best, having carried out a fairly deep restyling of the crossover. I was surprised by the huge grille with clear chrome crossbars and a fairly wide edging. Rectangular slightly tilted fog lights and a large throat of the air intake are an excellent addition to it.
The salon of the new Mazda CX 3 2021 has five seats, despite the fact that the wheelbase is 2570 mm. The interior parameters of the cabin are 1810 mm long, 1435 mm wide, and 1210 mm high. The rear row of seats was set slightly higher than the front.
In 2021, the model will only be offered in front-water version. The Mazda CX 3 engine range will include 2 powertrain variants:

Hyundai Tucson
The new generation of the SUV boasts a redesigned exterior, a redesigned interior and a redesigned engine lineup.
Restyling has changed the dimensions of the car. The body of the Tucson SUV is larger than its predecessor (5 mm in length and 8 mm in width). The main changed parameter - the wheelbase - has grown to 2670 mm (+30 mm).
The update also touched the line of engines. The weakest gasoline atmospheric engine, 1.6 liters for 132 horses, disappeared, and its production ceased. Now the initial version is a 2-liter unit with performance characteristics at the level of 150 forces and 192 Nm of torque. It can be ordered with front-wheel drive and 4x4. This Tussan comes with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The most powerful gasoline engine in the range is a fresh 1.6-liter turbocharged engine capable of developing 177 horsepower at 265 Nm of thrust. Such modifications are equipped with all-wheel drive and 7-band automatic transmission.
Despite the gradual refusal of global manufacturers from the production of diesel engines, Hyundai plans to preserve the variation with a heavy fuel engine for the Russian market after restyling. The dealer has cars with 2-liter engines and 185 hp. from. with a thrust of 400 Nm. This version can be chosen in all-wheel drive and with automatic transmission for 6 gears.
In the basic configuration, the new Tussan can be bought for 1.4-1.42 million rubles. The price for richly equipped modifications reaches 2-2.2 million.
Nissan Murano
The 2021 Nissan Murano will be a real bestseller. This is what the Japanese media write. The third generation of the crossover turned out to be sporty and aristocratic.
As before, the model is presented with one petrol unit - a 3.5-liter V6 with 260 horsepower. The gearbox remains the same - it is the Xtronic variator.
There are changes in size and weight: the crossover has become lighter by 59 kg, wider by 25 mm, lower by 13 mm, longer by 50 mm. Engineers say at every opportunity that they have managed to achieve a fuel reduction of 20%, and all thanks to the reduced weight, improved aerodynamics, improved transmission.
The price of new items in 2021 will be + 200-250 thousand steering wheels to the cost of the second generation (1.5 million rubles). The total will be 1.875 million.
Nissan ariya
Nissan has just unveiled its first all-electric SUV. Nissan Ariya debuted during a digital event that was broadcast live in Yokohama, Japan; it is a two-row, 5-passenger crossover that will offer a choice of single-engine front-wheel drive or twin-engine e-4ORCE all-wheel drive, as well as two different battery sizes for an estimated range of up to 300 miles.
Ariya uses a completely new platform for electric vehicles with a liquid-cooled battery installed in the base of the chassis. Four main models are available: the 63 kWh or 87 kWh battery will be offered with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Nissan's preliminary estimate is around 300 miles for the 87 kWh FWD model.
The Nissan Ariya is slated to hit the North American market in the third or fourth quarter of calendar year 2021, most likely as a 2022 model, with a starting price of around $ 40,000. More details will be posted closer to the launch date.
Honda pilot
Honda designers presented the SUV with a new body, redesigned the interior space, and improved the technical characteristics of the engines.
The crossover parameters have changed. The length of the car is a little less than five meters, and the width is 2 m. With a ground clearance of 20 cm, the Pilot will be comfortable driving off-road. In a 7-seater configuration, the boot volume is 305 liters, but if you fold the third row, it will grow to 827 liters. The maximum capacity is 3 cubic meters.
There is only one engine option under the hood of the SUV. Honda engineers equipped the Pilot with a 6-cylinder V-shaped engine with a volume of 3 liters. Its power-to-weight ratio is 249 horsepower at 294 Nm of torque. With the VTEC system, the 2.6-tonne car can accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 9.1 seconds (see test drive video). A 6-speed automatic transmission is designed to transmit traction to all four wheels. Diesel is used for the American market, however, it is not available in Russia.
The price of the new Pilot 2021 model at a Honda dealer in Moscow starts at RUB 3 million. Due to the options, the figure will grow to the level of 3.6 - 3.8 million rubles.
Kia sportage
The main difference between the 2021-2022 crossover model year was the renewal of the head optics. The car received slightly more elongated headlights, and a block of 4 fog lamps is now located in the front bumper. However, the recognizable appearance of the model has been preserved, leaving a powerful short hood with two "folds", as well as an intricate radiator grille. The flat front bumper with a narrow center slot and a silver protective insert to protect against scratches when driving off-road is also in place.
On the Russian market, the car will be offered with three engine options, two of which run on gasoline and one on diesel. The starting modification will be equipped with a 2-liter unit for 150 horses, developing 192 Nm of torque.These cars come with 6-speed mechanics and front-wheel drive. But as an option, you can order a complete set of luxury, which has a 6-band automatic and all-wheel drive.
The second petrol version is a 1.6-liter turbo engine, which is equipped with a 7-speed automatic transmission, as well as a 4x4 wheel arrangement. The performance characteristics of such a motor will already amount to 177 horsepower and 365 Nm of thrust.
The diesel is represented by a 2-liter modification with an automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, a herd of 185 horses and a torque of 400 nm.
The price of new items for 2021-2022 starts at 1.28 million rubles.
Mercedes GLC
During the development of the car, the hood was lengthened, the shape of the roof was changed. Now GLS is not the most compact crossover of the German brand. This move makes room for the market launch of the new GLA class Mercedes, which is called a hybrid of the A and GLC series.
The concept of the new Mercedes Benz GLS 2021 is moving towards SUVs, as evidenced by a number of details of the updated exterior:
- increased dimensions;
- aggressive design elements;
- new radiator grill;
- body silhouette reminiscent of the GL class.
Despite numerous transformations, the technical characteristics of the Mercedes GLS will not change globally. The gearbox, drive system and other technical details remain the same.
The power unit will depend on the configuration:
- Base Kit - (Economy Option) The 2021 Mercedes GLC will be powered by a 2.2 liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine with 170 horsepower.
- The mid-range variant will receive a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
- The top version, in turn, will gain 249 horses with a 3.5-liter gasoline engine, motivated by 6 cylinders.
The cost of the basic configuration of the crossover in 2021-2022 will be about 2 million rubles, which puts it in the same lineup with the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
Skoda Kodiaq
Skoda Kodiaq 2022 model year - will survive its first restyling. Work on the modernization of the crossover was carried out all last year, and in April a full presentation of the new model took place.
The car received an updated appearance, the radiator grille was enlarged, and the optics became narrower, which gave an aggressive appearance. Also, the interior has undergone some updates, which has a new two-spoke steering wheel, seats and a media system.
The Skoda Kodiaq 2022 model year will be equipped with a one-and-a-half-liter TSI engine with 147 hp. with., as well as diesel engines 2.0 TDI with a capacity of 147 and 197 liters. from. The gas engine relies on a six-speed "mechanics" and front-wheel drive, the diesel engine - a seven-speed DSG transmission. Together with the 197-horsepower unit, four-wheel drive is also available.
Another engine - a 2.0-liter 188-horsepower TSI - will be installed on the "sports" modification of the RS.
The manufacturer also announced updates for the "charged" modification of the Kodiaq RS. She decided to change the engine - diesel for gasoline, thereby adding 5 "horses" to the car, but seriously losing in torque (370 Nm instead of 500 Nm).
Lexus rx
It is difficult to confuse the exterior styling of Lexus with any other, and the models of the Japanese premium brand themselves can be distinguished by inexperienced motorists, except by the nameplates on the stern and sizes. More expressiveness is expected for the new generation of the 2022 Lexus RX, although the air intakes are inevitably reduced in size as the model gradually moves to green technologies.
The new Lexus RX also features powerful headlights, a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
The details of the power plants for the RX350h, RX450h + and RX500h trim levels are shared only by the Japanese media so far. According to their data, the RX350h will be equipped with a THS II unit - the same as on the compact NX, that is, with a 2.5-liter engine and an electric "add-on", which will provide power at 222 hp. from.
The RX500h will be powered by a six-cylinder 3.5-liter unit, while the RX450h + (plus in the name stands for plug-in hybrid) will get the powertrain from the new rechargeable RAV4 PHEV.
It uses a 2.5-liter petrol "four" with 182 liters. with., which is connected to a continuously variable transmission, and is helped by two electric motors - a front 134 kW (176 hp).and 40 kW (53 hp) at the rear, the total peak power of the hybrid is 302 hp.
The new Lexus RX 2022 has already staked out a place in Russian dealerships, which is confirmed by the corresponding patents obtained in our country. At the same time, new products will have to wait for a long time - until the end of 2022, the beginning of 2023.
Ferrari crossover
The Italian company Ferrari is in full swing developing its first crossover. The production version of the Ferrari SUV will not be released until 2022 and will be named Purosangue (purebred).
The crossover will be based on a new modular Ferrari platform with a front engine and a robotized gearbox (transaxle configuration) referred to the rear axle. This trolley will also be used for classic supercars of the brand (for example, for the successor of the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso model), therefore, it has the ability to scale, change the ground clearance and install different power units. By the way, the name Purosangue (in Italian for "purebred"), which was previously wooed by the SUV, actually applies to the entire family of cars developed on the new platform.
The project has rear and four-wheel drive, V6, V8 and V12 engines, as well as a hybrid setup, unified with the latest Ferrari SF90 Stradale supercar (it has three electric motors). The crossover can get all of the above options. It is also known that it will have a length of about five meters, a four-seater cabin and adjustable ground clearance, that is, there is a high probability of using air suspension, which Ferrari never had.
BMW X4 M
The hugely popular crossover coupe segment continues to grow, and BMW is working to maintain its dominant position in this segment of the market.
The current generation BMW X4 offers customers a wide range of powertrains, from the economical 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine to the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that is installed under the hood of the "charged" BMW X4 M. no changes are expected.
According to rumors, the novelty will receive a modified infotainment system and revised center console design. The screen should be enlarged and the new gear lever will be positioned on the redesigned console. The iDrive controls will be better integrated into the console and will work with the latest BMW iDrive software.
So far, there is no specific timeline for the debut of the high-performance crossover version of the 2022 model year. According to rumors, the debut can be expected next year.
Renault Duster 2
Do you think this Duster is another restyling of the "source"? In reality, this is indeed a completely new model. A completely new body, a completely new interior, an updated range of engines and transmissions, a modernized chassis … "Duster" really moves to a qualitatively new level - following the Arkana and the updated Kaptur.
The second generation Duster received a 100% new body. The structure uses more high-strength and ultra-high-strength grades of steel, the body rigidity has increased by 10%, the power cage of the passenger compartment and the zones of programmed deformation have been optimized.
The dimensions of the new Duster have remained virtually unchanged. The body length has increased to 4341 mm (+26 mm), width - 1804 mm, height - 1682 mm. The wheelbase has added a modest 3 mm and is now 2676 mm. At the same time, the new Renault Duster retained excellent (by class standards) geometric cross-country ability: ground clearance (clearance) is 210 mm, entry and exit angles are 31 and 33 degrees, respectively.

The base engine for the new Renault Duster remains a naturally aspirated 1.6 engine with 114 hp. in combination with a 5-speed "mechanics" and front-wheel drive. Also, a new combination appeared in the range: a 1.6 engine with 117 hp. (with a timing chain drive), 6-speed "mechanics", four-wheel drive.
Some worried that Renault would ditch the 143bhp 2.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine.So - he stayed! Combined by default with 6-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive.
The new Renault Duster can still be bought with a diesel engine - nowadays this is a rather rare offer in the class. Turbodiesel 1.5 dCi 109 hp combined with 6-speed "mechanics" and all-wheel drive.
Hyundai creta
Hyundai Creta (also known as Hyundai ix25 and Hyundai Cantus) is one of the bestsellers in the Russian market. The new Hyundai Creta 2021-2022 will enter the market with a six-seater and seven-seater saloon, as well as petrol and diesel engines with 160 and 115 horsepower.
The new body of the 2nd generation Hyundai Creta also got redesigned bumpers with protective silver inserts, more muscular fenders, as well as unusual rear lighting, consisting of several sections.
The overall length of the new Hyundai Creta 2021-2022 is 4,300 mm, the wheelbase has been increased to 2,610 (+ 20), width - 1,790, height - 1,635. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, or with a variator, but the drive is only front, and the rear suspension is semi-dependent.
Hyundai bayon
A new player has appeared in the European segment of B-class crossovers - the subcompact Hyundai Bayon 2022. The exterior of the model is decided in the corporate style of Sensuous Sportiness.
Unlike its Venue counterpart, the new Bayon is over four meters in length, reaching 4180 mm. Width was 1775 mm, height - 1490 mm, wheelbase - 2580 mm.
The Bayon engine range consists of small displacement gasoline units. The model is exclusively front-wheel drive.
The initial is a four-cylinder aspirated 1.2 MPI with 84 hp. and 118 Nm. It can only be combined with a 5-speed manual transmission. Next comes the 1.0 T-GDi turbo engine with 100 and 120 hp power options.
For an engine with less boost, a 48-volt mild hybrid superstructure comes at an additional cost, while a 120-horsepower unit is equipped with it by default.
Cars with a 48 V starter generator instead of the classic 6-speed "mechanics" receive an iMT box, in which the clutch is not mechanically connected to the pedal (the closing / opening is controlled by the electronics). Another three-cylinder engine can be combined with the "robot" 7DCT.
The cars will be manufactured at a plant in Turkey, in the same place where the related Hyundai i20 hatchbacks are assembled (the models have a common platform). Prices and configurations will be announced later.
Infiniti QX55
The novelty, with which the Japanese intend to return and "take center stage" in the coupe-crossover segment, was named QX55 and borrowed units and assemblies from the current QX50.
The appearance of the QX55 is the result of the evolution of the look of the FX, which changed its index to the QX70 in 2013 and disappeared from the brand's lineup four years later. Infiniti characterizes the new style as a fusion of Japanese minimalism and bold solutions designed to appeal to a young audience.
In terms of dimensions, the QX55 is noticeably smaller than its predecessor, slightly inferior to the BMW X4, but surpasses the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. The Infiniti is 4,732 millimeters long, 1,902 millimeters wide and 1,622 millimeters high. At the same time, in terms of the distance between the axles, the novelty wins over its larger compatriot Lexus RX: 2799 millimeters against 2790. The ground clearance reaches 219 millimeters - 15 millimeters more than that of the Bavarian competitor. The approach angle is 17.4 degrees, the exit angle is 23.6 degrees.
The QX50 cross-coupe also got a bunch of two-liter "turbo four" VC-Turbo with a variable compression ratio with a capacity of 272 horsepower (380 Nm of torque) and a CVT variator. In Russia, the motor traditionally gets derated to the "tax" 249 forces. The Drive Mode Selector system is available with three standard driving modes - Standard, Eco and Sport - and the ability to save individual settings.
The cross coupe will be offered in the US in three trim levels: Luxe, Essential and Luxury.
Opel Mokka
The new Mokka lost the stupid prefix X, which appeared after the 2016 restyling (such cars did not reach Russia). But now it is not the middle, but the junior SUV in the range: with the change of generation, the length of the car has been reduced from 4275 to 4150 mm, and from now on the Mokka is even shorter than the Crossland X model (4212 mm). However, the width has increased by 10 mm, and the wheelbase by 2 mm (up to 2557 mm). The overhangs of the body have become noticeably shorter, the maximum wheel diameter has reached 18 inches, and the Mokka has acquired other, more "light" proportions.
So far, only the electric Mokka-e is presented: the CMP platform was originally designed for the creation of battery cars. All technology is the same as that of the sister hatchback Corsa-e. The front wheels are driven by an electric motor with a return of 136 hp. and 260 Nm. The maximum speed is 150 km / h.
The lithium-ion traction battery units are located under the passenger compartment floor, their total capacity is 50 kW ∙ h. The declared mileage on a single charge is 322 km in the WLTP cycle (versus 330 km for the lighter Korsa). An on-board charger with a capacity of 11 kW is installed as standard, and it will take half an hour to replenish the charge by 80% from a 100-kilowatt terminal.
Following the electric modification, for which they will ask for approximately 35 thousand euros, more affordable gasoline and diesel options will come out.
