The calendar for December is not rich in weekends. To be more precise, we will have only 10 days of rest in December (5 pairs of days off and not a day more).
There are no shortened working days either, since December 31 this time falls on Sunday.
Nevertheless, the distribution of days in the calendar can be considered quite successful, because both Saturday 30 and New Year's Day December 31 itself will be non-working, which means that the housewives will have plenty of time to prepare a great family holiday.
Presidential vacation
To determine what date we go to work in January 2024, let's analyze the weekend schedule established by labor law.
Important! According to Art. 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the period from January 1 to January 8 inclusive is non-working for all regions!
Such a long holiday period is due to two public holidays:

So until 2005, only the 1st, 2nd and 7th days were rested, from 2005 to 2013 the government gave citizens 5 days off in a row. In 2013, after analyzing the location of the dates on the calendar and the efficiency of the work of employees during the short workdays between the New Year and Christmas holidays, a long 8-day rest period was established, which is still valid at the moment.
Although the law sets holidays from January 1 to January 8, they usually rest much longer, given the previous days off. The longest rest period was in 2015, amounting to 11 days in a row. Thus, the winter holidays may be longer (if they are supplemented by holidays) or shorter (if the Government accepts changes in dates, approving the schedule of postponement of holidays, as is expected in 2024).
Important! In 2024, we will have a total of 9 days of rest, from Saturday 12/30/23 to Sunday 01/07/24 inclusive. Please note that the first working day in January 2024 is Monday, January 8th.
How did it happen if this day is considered a non-working day in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation? It's all about the changes that the Government Decree "on the postponement of days off" makes to the production calendar of 2024.
Weekend transfers
Important! Every year, the government approves a decree establishing special transfers of holidays that go beyond the basic rules. They make such changes with one goal - to create for citizens at least one more long holiday period for the May holidays.
So, having learned what date to go to work in 2024, you should immediately think that for the 8th day worked in February, you can have a great time off in May, because all three January extra days will be moved to spring holidays .
Obviously, at the end of 2023, such a transfer will be difficult:
- for Saturday, January 6, we will walk on Thursday, May 2;
- for Sunday 7 January - Friday 3 May;
- for Monday 8 January - Friday 10 May.
Thus, the first week of May will be the shortest - only 2 working days, of which one is reduced. In total, in May we will rest for 13 days:
- 5 days for May Day;
- 4 days for Victory Day;
- + standard weekend of the 3rd and 4th week of the month.
Production calendar
Having figured out where the 3 days that we did not finish in January are moving, we return to the question of exactly when (what date) to go to work after the New Year 2024, and the January production calendar will help us with this.
In the first month of 2024 there will be 31 calendar days, among which there will be 13 non-working days (weekends and presidential holidays) and a total of 18 working days.
Working hours in the first month of the new year will be distributed as follows:

Important! Despite the fact that the first working day in January 2024 is the 8th day, all employees employed “at a rate” must receive full payment for the working month.This rule applies to enterprises of all forms of ownership, since the period from 1 to 7 is officially established as a paid vacation.
Who will be paid differently?
Another could be a payroll system for all those who do not work according to the classic 5-day workday, but also work on a daily or floating schedule, or receive a salary “from production”.
