Jute thread is a natural fiber. It is durable, therefore it is used for making ropes, ropes, twine. It is used to make fabric for packaging. Jute is also used as insulation.

Needlewomen widely use jute to create decorative and practical things. Twine crafts look cozy and help create a warm atmosphere in any room.

Advantages and disadvantages of products

Twine is widely available and can always be purchased from any utility department or store. Currently, high-quality fibers are produced, softer and more manageable in work, in different colors. All new items are available in handicraft stores.

The advantages of jute twine crafts are as follows:

  • Durability; a well-made product retains its shape and color well; natural straw shade does not fade and does not fade over time;
  • Environmental friendliness; the twine does not emit harmful fumes;
  • Ease of processing;
  • Low cost; jute threads and fabric cost much less than linen and cotton.

There are also disadvantages of this natural material:

  • With the active use of fibers, the smallest villi are poured from them, which can provoke or aggravate allergies;
  • Perfectly collects dust and odors, needs aeration and cleaning;
  • Quickly absorbs moisture, after which it dries for a long time; when wet, accumulates bacteria, mold spores;
  • The fiber is quite tough, so it can rub your hands during the weaving process; for the same reason, it is not recommended to make hats, bag handles, beads from twine.

Simple curtain tiebacks

Grips made of twine are well suited to linen or cotton curtains. They are easy to manufacture, from which you can start working with this material.

For pickups you will need:

  • Two CDs or thick corrugated cardboard;
  • Twine roll;
  • Two wooden or plastic skewers.

The ends of the thread must be fixed with hot glue or Moment.

Step-by-step instructions for beginner needlewomen:

  1. Draw a circle with a diameter of 7 cm on the discs, carefully cut it out so that you get a one-piece "donut".
  2. Unwind a few meters of twine and cut off.
  3. Glue the tip of the twine to the disc, wind it tightly around the workpiece.
  4. When the thread runs out, take the next piece. Winding without gaps and gaps, in several layers.
  5. When the entire disc is wrapped, hide the tip of the thread inward, secure with glue.
  6. Wrap wooden skewers from the blunt end with twine.
  7. Optionally, you can decorate the hooks with curls or other elements of jute filigree.

The hooks are ready. The curtain is looped through the pick-up hole and fixed with a skewer. Just like from a disc, a pickup is made from cardboard.

Decorative vases and bottles

Fancy-shaped bottles can be used to make decorative vases. It is only necessary to wind the twine tightly and fix its ends with glue.

Tall narrow bottles, bottles with handles look great with jute. In this way, you can breathe a second life into an old (cracked and glued) jug or teapot.

As a rule, the decor is not limited to simple wrapping. You can add the decoration:

  • Bouquets of dried branches and herbs;
  • Shiny beads and glass aquarium stones;
  • White lace or macrame elements;
  • Contrasting bright threads and ribbons.

Or you can lighten some of the fibers, and wind the jute in fancy stripes.

Animals from bottles

It is easy to make a row of animals on the basis of a bottle wrapped in twine.Most often they create cats and cats, and from wide egg-pods - owls. The technology for making rope is the same, only you need to make another head and decorate accordingly.

For the base of the head, it is good to adapt a foam ball of a suitable diameter. If this is not at hand, you can mold a base of wet paper and PVA glue using the papier-mâché technique. Soft paper is best suited - toilet paper, newsprint.

Jute filigree - arts and crafts

In relation to this type of handicraft, the word "art" may well be applied. The complexity of the patterns and the showiness of the final result do not allow to call pictures, panels or caskets as jute crafts.

It is realistic to make such beauty with your own hands, but it will take a lot of patience and such materials:

  • Twine (natural color and dyed);
  • Template (drawing) on paper;
  • Film, package or file;
  • Needle (you can take an awl, short knitting needle or a toothpick);
  • PVA glue or transparent;
  • Stationery knife.

If the product is flat, then a press is used to level the surface. To fix the finished products, use transparent acrylic varnish.

Numerous decorative elements - beads, rhinestones, pebbles, ribbons, lace, coffee beans - are selected for a specific job.

Fabric souvenirs

Burlap is woven from jute fiber. You can also make a lot of interesting things from this fabric:

  • Souvenir bags for storing fragrant herbs and spices;
  • Flowers (often roses);
  • Rustic dolls;
  • Bags and clutches;
  • Curtains and organizers;
  • Tablecloths and capes;
  • Pillowcases for decorative cushions;
  • Lampshades.
