The 2023-2024 school year is ahead and we propose to figure out in detail how many weeks there will be in the coming school year and what the student's calendar will be like for the system of quarters and trimesters.
Knowledge Day
The first bell of 2023-2024 will sound in schools traditionally on 09/01/23. This time the holiday falls on Friday and is not transferable.
As a rule, the first day of school will be devoted to festive events and, in fact, students of schools who have already managed to switch to a five-day week will start training on Monday, September 4th.For educational institutions with a 6-day working week, the first full working day will be Saturday, September 2.
School year structure
How many weeks schoolchildren will spend at their desks in the 2023-2024 academic year is regulated by Federal Law No. 273-FZ and the calendar approved by Order of the Ministry of Education and Science.
When compiling a student's calendar, be sure to take into account such factors that affect the total number of educational days:
- schedule of weekends and holidays set by the official production calendar;
- recommended vacation dates;
- leap year or not (for example, in 2024 February will have 29 calendar days, which means you have to study 1 more day).
Also, how many weeks students have to work in 2023-2024 directly depends on the level of study and the availability of final exams:

Holiday regulations
As a rule, the vacation calendar set by the regional authorities is advisory in nature. This means that schools can change the dates of the beginning and end of the vacation periods, if the specifics of the educational process require it.
When scheduling, schools must adhere to the following rules:
- from 09/01/23 to 05/25/24 the student must have a total rest of at least 30 calendar days;
- rest periods start on Monday;
- minimum vacation duration - 7 calendar days;
- during the summer, students must rest for at least two months;
- working schedule is approved until mid-August;
- rescheduling is possible, but the new start date of the holidays cannot differ from that indicated in the approved schedule by more than 2 weeks;
- Administrations must be notified of all changes at least 2 weeks in advance.
As a rule, schools change schedules very rarely and vacation periods from year to year fall on approximately the same week of the school year. Information about the dates, as well as the system by which the workflow is organized, as well as Saturdays (working or a day off for children) should be available on the official website of the school.

Quarter calendar
In the fourth system, the 2023-2024 school year will begin on Friday 09/01/23, and the "last bell" for students will sound on Saturday 05/25/24.
A feature of this chart is the division of the year into 4 unequal periods - quarters:

With a 6-day work schedule, there is no transfer of a day off from Saturday 11/04/23 to Monday 11/06/23. Accordingly, the first day of the 2nd quarter will be Monday, November 6th.
Thus, for students in grades 2-11, vacation time will include 4 periods, for first graders - 5 (they are given an additional 7 days of rest in February).
Important! Holiday dates for 5 days and 6 days in this case will not differ:

Summer holidays for all but 9th and 11th grades will traditionally start on May 26 and run until August 31, 2024.
Calendar for modular (trimester) system
For the modular system, the start and end dates of the school year remain unchanged - September 1 and May 25, respectively.
A new way of organizing the educational process offers a more optimal distribution of study time and vacation periods so that children are not too overloaded, as is often the case in the long 3rd quarter of the classical education system.
With the modular organization of the academic year, the entire period is divided into 3 blocks (trimesters), each of which is to be divided into two more modules. As a result, a system of 6 working blocks (each lasting 5-6 weeks) and 5 vacation blocks is formed.
To understand how many weeks schoolchildren will study in 2024 according to the trimester system, consider the school calendar:

Please note that the final trimester score is set at the end of each of the three periods, this means that children leave for intermediate holidays without completing a certain block, which means it is important for them not to forget everything learned in module 1 during the holidays (especially New Year's).
It is worth noting that in total with such a system, children have a rest for a year for 5 weeks, while for a quarter of the time allotted for rest, in total it gives only a month. The modular vacation schedule for 2023-2024 will be as follows:
