Features of learning by modules
Modular system appeared not so long ago. The very principle of learning by modules is built on the basis of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which is also called Bologna.
The main difference of the new system is the fact that the educational process is divided into modules (part of the training program with a clearly defined goal and expected results).
But for most schoolchildren, the more obvious difference between quarters and trimesters is modular holidays, which in 2023-2024 academic year.year in autumn and spring will not coincide in different educational systems. It is because of this feature that the modular schedule is also called the “5/1” system - after 5 weeks of study, one week of rest follows. It is worth noting that in practice, training modules can last 6 and sometimes even 7 weeks, depending on the features of the calendar.
School year for schools that are in the 2023-2024 academic year. year they will switch to modular holidays, traditionally begin in early September and end on May 25, but instead of 4 rest periods, students will immediately receive 6 vacation periods - some will be announced at the end of each academic trimester, and some will become intermediate.
To understand how the holidays will be distributed in the 2023-2024 calendar, it is worth understanding what structure of the school year the new modular system offers.
Trimesters 2023-2024
In the modular system, the school year is divided into 3 periods - trimesters. At the same time, at the end of each trimester, an intermediate certification is carried out in all subjects (as before for a quarter). The final annual grade is formed from three trimester grades.
The start and end dates for each trimester in 2023-2024 will be as follows:

Thus, the 2023-2024 modular learning regime assumes 33 weeks of study for elementary, middle and high school students.
Important! In all classes, holidays will take place at the same time, taking into account the schedule approved by the leadership of the educational institution.
Trimester holidays
To understand how modular holidays in 2024 differ from quarter holidays, consider the general distribution of rest periods for different educational systems:

In the quarterly system, additional winter holidays are provided only to first graders.
Autumn holidays
The recommended modular vacation schedule for 2023-2024 includes two vacation periods in the fall:

At the same time, the first modular holidays planned in schools for 2023-2024 will be intermediate - going on a short vacation, children will not complete the educational module.
The second autumn vacation will take place after the end of the first term.
Winter holidays
Schedule of winter modular holidays recommended for schools that have chosen the trimester system for 2023-2024 will be as follows:

Important! The long-awaited New Year holidays of 2024 for students in trimesters will also be intermediate, and on Monday, January 8, all schoolchildren will already sit at their desks.
February (2nd winter) holidays in 2023-2024 for schools that switch to modular education will be mandatory for all parallels (from 1st to 11th grade), because they will mark the end of the second trimester.
Spring holidays
In the spring there will be only one modular vacation, which is scheduled for the period from April 8 to April 14, 2024 in the calendar for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The period will be a short break before the final 6-week study period.
Summer holidays
The last bell in all schools, no matter what the vacation schedule for the school year, will ring on May 25th. Schoolchildren will have a full 3 months of vacation in the summer of 2024, from May 26 to August 31.
It is worth noting that official documents indicate that the minimum period of summer vacation is 2 months, which means that this norm is not violated when scheduling final grade exams. It is also possible to conduct summer practice in June, if this norm is spelled out in the documents of the educational institution.

Possible changes
Important! The given schedules are recommended for schools, but each educational institution of the country is en titled to set its own dates for vacation periods.
This is why your school can choose a different day for the start of the rest period, but without violating these basic rules:
- holidays must start on Monday;
- duration of rest - at least 7 days;
- for the entire academic year (from September to May), children must rest for at least 30 calendar days.
In case of force majeure, the previously approved vacation calendar can be changed, but not more than 2 weeks. All participants in the educational process must be informed about changes in the work schedule 14 days in advance.
