Will the Victory Parade be canceled due to the coronavirus: the celebration of May 9

May 9 is a holiday in honor of the Great Victory in the Second World War. The event is celebrated annually in several countries around the world. The main events are the solemn parade and the procession of the Immortal Regiment. In 2020, not just another date will be celebrated, but the 75th anniversary. Initially, the holiday was planned to be held on a grand scale - to invite foreign guests, to arrange an enchanting show. But in connection with the current unfavorable situation in the world, the question arises - will the Victory Parade be canceled due to the coronavirus COVID-19? The organization of the Immortal Regiment procession remains in doubt, and there is also a need to think over a way to celebrate May 9 in quarantine.

Will there be a Victory Parade on May 9 in 2020?

Official statements on this matter have not yet been received. self-isolation regime introduced until April 30, 2020. In Moscow, where the main festive events were planned, tightened measures were introduced. It is not yet clear whether this situation will last longer than the established period or whether the situation in the country will allow most of the restrictions to be lifted.

Guests from different countries of the world were supposed to fly to the anniversary Victory Parade. Many have confirmed their consent. But the borders of the states are for the most part still closed, whether the guests will be able to cross the border, even if the celebration of May 9 will take place according to the conceived plan, is not yet clear.

At the moment, the planned events have not been officially canceled and the parade participants are preparing to perform. True, trainings and rehearsals take place behind closed doors and remotely. Now the only thing that meets the conditions of self-isolation is an air show.

Several versions of the possible development of events are put forward:

  1. The Victory Parade will be canceled, limited to the broadcast of the air show.
  2. It is possible that the parade itself will take place on Red Square, as planned, but there will be no spectators. The event will also be broadcast online.
  3. The holiday will be postponed to another day. In this case, a parade can be organized on June 24th. Indeed, it was on this day in 1945 that the first Victory Parade was held in the USSR. There are also proposals to postpone the holiday until the fall of 2020.
  4. Well, there is also a small hope that the country will celebrate the Victory Day as usual.

In other countries, the exact course of events is not yet known either. At the same time, some have already announced that there will be no annual festive events. For example, Kazakhstan has officially canceled the Victory Parade due to the coronavirus. Only the question of the Immortal Regiment remains open, since some citizens do not agree with such a decision by the authorities.

Will the Immortal Regiment pass through the streets of the country in 2020?

If the parade can still be organized in such a way that the likelihood of contracting the coronavirus is minimal, then the march of the Immortal Regiment will not allow this. If military personnel are currently in strict isolation, then ordinary citizens are less disciplined. For this reason, the march can cause massive COVID-19 infection.

Already now, proposals are being put forward to lead the Immortal Regiment not through the streets of the country, but on the Internet. It is not yet known in what format this will happen. But special sites are already functioning - memory boards. There everyone can post photos and data about their ancestors who fought for our Motherland in the Second World War.
