Volumetric paper crafts: a master class with a photo on creating volumetric paper jewelry with your own hands

The scope for creativity is endless, and diagrams and templates for crafts can be freely downloaded from the Internet. Even the decoration for lamps is made of paper treated with special compositions, a trend towards naturalness and preservation of natural resources.

Dollhouse made of thick cardboard

To make a dollhouse you will need:

  • Sheets of cardboard of a suitable size (about 40x40x15cm), it is better to choose the hardest one. You may be tempted to create a very large house, for example, for Barbie dolls, from a cardboard box for industrial equipment or household appliances, but it may also need to be glued in several layers;
  • For furniture, unnecessary boxes of cosmetics, medicines, gif.webpt wrapping are suitable;
  • Several linear meters of veneer of different colors in about the same quantity as cardboard. You can take finishing paper, thick fabric to it, so the house will look more interesting;
  • Additional materials - spray glue, glue gun with rods, ruler, scissors, knife, double-sided tape.

Progress:

  1. The first thing to do is cut the compartments out of the cardboard. They will be used for the walls and ceiling of the house. They must be of a suitable length and width (their size depends on the dimensions of our base). If the cardboard is not rigid, it makes sense to glue two of its sheets.
  2. The cut walls should be pasted over with veneer, the interior can be finished with fabric. Next, we proceed to veneer a large piece of cardboard for the base and roof. Choose the right colors and stick them on the "floor" on the first floor and the "ceiling" on the second.
  3. Now let's take care of the walls of the cottage. To do this, you need a ruler. Place the pre-prepared tabs in the box and measure the "height of the floors".
  4. We cut out strips of veneer and other finishing materials of a given width and use them to glue the interior of the house. It is good if each of the "rooms" has its own color. We start to lay the veneer / paper / thick fabric from the inside and finish with the outside of the cardboard. We repeat the exercise four times.
  5. Now let's merge its outer walls. Cut a long strip out of the veneer slightly wider than the depth of the cardboard. We glue the house and glue the protruding parts to its back wall.
  6. The house is almost ready. It remains to make an attic and strengthen the bottom of the house. We attach the attic to the back of the house with glue. Cover the cut parts with thick cardboard and fix. We cut out a wide strip from the veneer and glue it to the back of the house (starting from the left side wall and ending on the opposite one). We do the same with the bottom. These actions will increase its stability and give the bottom and back wall rigidity.
  7. Cover the rest of the cardboard with a veneer sheet of the same color. Now it is enough to fix the surfaces of the roof, walls and ceiling with hot glue.
  8. You can decorate in different ways. Wall decals, mini garlands, paintings, whatever!

You can buy furniture from most toy stores or make your own!

Quilling paper crafts

Quilling ("wrapping around a pen or tube") is a paper craft assembly technique (also known as paper filigree) used to create jewelry from narrow strips of paper rolled into a coil spring and properly formed by crimping the outer layers of paper.

The prepared elements are usually glued to the decorated surface so that the surface of the paper strip is perpendicular to it. Less often, individual decorative compositions are glued together.

The technique probably comes from the filigree jewelry technique.

Useful and necessary tools and accessories for quilling:

  • Paper strips (you can cut it yourself or buy already cut);
  • Glue or glue gun;
  • A needle or toothpick for "twisting" or a special tool;
  • Template for measuring the dimensions of twisted circles;
  • Scissors for possible trimming "
  • Substrate;
  • A damp sponge to moisten your fingers and remove the glue from them;
  • Inverter for corrugating strips (optional);
  • Guillotine shears for possible cutting of strips.

Bulky papier-mâché accessories

Papier-mâché, that is, the technique of applying many layers of paper pulp or pieces of paper impregnated with a special glue, has been known since the 2nd century AD.

Such voluminous paper crafts were invented in China, the birthplace of paper, and came to Europe in the 10th century. Used in handicrafts and arts. It is often used in the theater to create decorations and masks.

Papier-mâché art forms and figurines may seem impractical or unstable - but this is only an appearance. Even church furniture and decorations were made using the papier-mâché method.

For ninety years, huge dolls created with this technique have adorned the Viareggio carnival. Papier-mâché figurines can also become an original home decoration.

Until recently, papier-mâché figurines were mainly made by children in practical and technical classes. Today their decorative potential in interiors has been rediscovered.

Papier-mâché figurines are perfect for a Scandinavian living room. They will correspond to the general love for natural materials in the countries of the North. It is best not to cover them with paint, but instead use the natural brownish color of brown paper.

A great idea for Scandinavian interior decoration is making Christmas figurines of reindeer that can be placed on a dresser or hung on a Christmas tree.

Dolls, lanterns and even papier-mâché dishes (for example, fruit vases) will look great in this outfit.

They will find their place on wooden tables or shelves, next to crocheted baskets and other natural materials. It's also a good idea to hang them on the ceiling.
