If you ask an ordinary citizen of Russia (or any other resident on the territory of the former USSR) about what is the most important holiday of the year, the answer, regardless of age, gender and type of activity, will be the same - New Year.
Students and workers love it for the New Year holidays, which provide an opportunity to spend more time with the family, plunging into a magical holiday atmosphere. Therefore, the majority, long before the New Year, are looking for an answer to the question of how we will work and rest in January 2021.
Weekends and working days in January 2021
January can be called a bum and a record holder for the number of weekends and holidays. The year 2021 will not be an exception, at the beginning of which the working half of the population may strangely forget the way to their jobs for as much as 10 days.
So, weekends and holidays in January will last from the 1st to the 10th day of the first month of the year. This is taking into account the fact that none of the holidays falls on a weekend and there will be no transfers.
How it happened will be answered by the production calendar. January 1 is New Year, January 2-6 and 8 are the traditional New Year holidays, January 7 is Christmas, which has the status of a public holiday, and the 9th and 10th day falls on the second Saturday and Sunday of this month.
Thus, in accordance with Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation "Non-working holidays" in the first month of 2021 there will be 15 working days, and 16 - weekends and holidays. There will be no shortened working days in January, and its hourly duration for employees will be:
- with a 24-hour work week - 62.4 hours;
- at 36 hours - 93.6 hours;
- for employed 40 hours a week - 104 hours.
Other countries cannot boast that many days off in any month of the year. For example, in the United States, only December 25, 26 and January 1 are considered official holidays during the Christmas and New Year period. The duration of New Year's holidays depends only on the employer, so employees prefer to accumulate time off throughout the year in order to relax by arranging a winter vacation.
Are there possible changes in the production calendar
The countries will be able to finally plan their holidays only after the approval by the Government of the Russian Federation of the Resolution “On the transfer of weekends to 2021”, which will make its own adjustments to the production calendar.
Changes to the way we work and play can be made for several reasons. The first thing that can affect the duration of the New Year holidays is December 31st.
For several years now, the State Duma has been submitting for consideration a bill to make the last day of the outgoing year a day off.
This proposal is very reasonable, because regardless of the field of activity, most working people on this day dream of getting home faster in order to be able to plunge into the festive atmosphere and prepare for the New Year together with their family. In 2019, December 31 did not become an official day off, maybe it will happen in 2020. Otherwise, you will have to be content with a one-hour shorter working day.
The second point is the COVID-19 pandemic. How this fact will affect the workflow in January 2021 is difficult to predict.
Perhaps, in order to avoid stagnation in the economy due to quarantine and the actual termination of the work of most enterprises and institutions, the country will cancel or shorten the New Year holidays. And perhaps, as some experts predict, a second wave of morbidity will break out in winter and the majority will again have to quarantine or work remotely.
Be that as it may, the countries can only hope for a successful development of events, which will allow us to meet the New Year 2021 in good health in the circle of loved ones.
