Long gone is the era of pirates, boarding, dashing sea battles and bony "Jolly Roger", but the memory of her is still alive. Among all filibusters, Captain Francis Drake was especially famous. Not a single victim escaped his fast and maneuverable ship "Golden Doe", and the ship itself was filled to the brim with gold and jewels. For the enrichment of the treasury, the English queen even bestowed a knighthood on Francis. Thanks to his successful campaigns and countless treasures, he became the most famous pirate in the world. Drake died, as befits a real sea wolf, on his ship during the next voyage.
Four hundred years later, a key is found in the pirate's coffin that opens the way to the legendary treasures of El Dorado. The treasured artifact falls into the hands of a descendant of Francis - Nathan Drake, and he embarks on a risky journey to a mysterious island lost somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. However, the plane of the treasure seeker is in distress, not reaching its destination, and the young man himself is taken prisoner by mercenaries. Miraculously escaping, Nathan and his companion are faced with the most difficult task in their lives. They will have to fight with armed thugs, simultaneously digging to the unraveling of an ancient secret.
The film tells the backstory of the first game, in which Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), still an inexperienced adventurer, with the help of his mentor Sally (Mark Wahlberg), discovers and hones his talents. Very soon, in typical Nathan Drake manner, he finds himself in unpleasant situations, from which he can only get out with more skill and even more luck.
In addition to Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, the cast also includes Mark Wahlberg as Sally, and Antonio Banderas and Sophia Taylor Ali as Chloe Fraser. The director of the project is Ruben Fleischer, who, in particular, is known for the film "Venom".
According to current plans, the release of the film is scheduled for July 16, 2021.
The film version of the adventures of the hero of the eponymous series of video games "Uncharted" - charming adventurer Nathan Drake, has finally entered the production stage. The film will not be a direct adaptation of the game series - it should tell the backstory of the famous character.
Pre-production
Sony became interested in the adaptation of Uncharted games back in 2008, shortly after the release of the first game in the series. In anticipation of the release of "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" even the official cartoon-prequel "Uncharted: Eye of Indra" (2009), which events takes place before the project "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", was filmed.
But since then, the team involved in the project has changed many times. The new film was directed at various times by David Russell, Seth Gordon, Sean Levy, and Dan Trachtenberg. Travis Knight was also named the alleged director, but he could not agree on his schedule, because of which the filming had to be moved once again. The last in the director's chair of "The Unknown: Drake's Luck" was Ruben Fleischer, known for his work on "Venom". His candidacy was approved in January 2020.

The 2015 version of the script was leaked to the network after the company's servers were hacked, after which the release date of the picture was once again shifted.
The lead actor, Tom Holland, was appointed back in 2017. At the same time, it was confirmed that the film adaptation will not repeat the plot of the games, but will become their prequel. But since then, the script has been rewritten several times.The final version was created by Arthur Markami Matt Holloway, who collaborated on Marvel's Iron Man (2008).

For a while, director Dan Trachtenberg argued that simply repeating a game plot would certainly disappoint fans, and filming a poorer version of their favorite game was initially a waste of time.
Working on the film
Sony created a separate film company, PlayStation Productions, specifically to work on filming game adaptations in the spring of 2019. Her projects include The Unknown: Drake's Luck. This film will be her pilot art release.
Rumor has it that the Lara Croft series, which relaunched onscreen in 2018 with Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider: Lara Croft), may be linked to the Drake universe. After all, Sony has a sequel about the brave tomb raider planned, and PlayStation Productions will just work on the franchises.
Due to long-term problems with the director's position, the date of the announced release of the film was repeatedly postponed. One of the last dates was March 2021, but in the end even these plans had to be changed. The filming period fell into the midst of a pandemic - it began a year before the expected release, in March 2020.

In one of his interviews, Holland mentioned that the filming of the film had to be stopped literally the day after they started.
The team was able to return to work only at the end of July - this happened in Germany. For the sake of safety on the site, they kept a distance and obliged everyone to wear masks.
Uncharted Actors & Characters
- Tom Holland will embody the main character of the game franchise - the still young Nathan Drake, better known as Nate. His character is known for his physical fitness as well as his sarcastic sense of humor.
This role was offered to Chris Pratt, but in the end he abandoned the project. Among others, Zachary Levy was also interested in the character. Fans of the game series, in turn, offered Brett Dalton for this role and even staged a flash mob on social networks.
- Sophia Taylor Ali will play Chloe Fraser, a treasure hunter from India.
- Mark Wahlberg got the role of Victor Sullivan or "Sally", an older friend and mentor of Nate. The actor confirmed his employment in the project back in 2010, left it for a while, but then returned.
Judging by the footage from the set of "Unknown: Drake's Luck", Wahlberg's character in the film will not lose his famous mustache. The fans were very worried about this detail.
- Antonio Banderas will play an as-yet-unnamed role.
- Tati Gabriel will become Braoddock. We don't remember such a character in the game.
Nathan Fillion, who played the lead character in the short film The Unknown, released in 2018, also showed interest in filming. But while fans of the franchise have liked this version of Drake's story, neither Sony nor Naughty Dog have confirmed their involvement with the franchise.

Unknown: Drake's Luck Release Date
The release date of the picture was postponed many times. Unknown: Drake's Luck is set to hit theaters on July 15, 2021, according to the latest news.This date was originally intended for the premiere of another Holland movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the same month, another action movie, Top Gun: Maverick (2021), is to be released.
