The first part of "Avatar" by James Cameron was released back in 2009 and immediately won as many as 3 Oscars. After the success of the first part, the creators immediately announced the future production of sequels, which were expected to be released back in 2016. But now, 4 years after the scheduled date, the creators announced the exact release date of the film "Avatar 2", then moved from 2020 to 2022, the trailer in Russian, unfortunately, is not yet available for viewing.
Plot
In the previous installment, former paralyzed Marine Jake Sully replaced his late twin brother in a special program to explore the planet Pandora. For the purpose of research, scientists have created special hybrids of local humanoids and humans, called avatars. It just turned out that the people did not have very good intentions - they tried to destroy the house of the Na'vi people, but Jake came to the aid of a humanoid, who decided to stay forever in the body of Na'vi. People were expelled from Pandora.
Part 2 will tell about Jake Sully becoming the leader of the tribe and about his struggle against selfish earthlings, who returned to the planet with even greater power. There is also information that Neytiri and Jake will have children, and they are already quite adults, who managed to grow up in 8 years.
At what stage of production are all four films now?
When it became known that the sequel to "Avatar" was given the green light, Cameron decided not to deviate from his original plans and started producing two sequels at the same time. They decided to shoot them in the same place as the first part - in New Zealand.
Then, in 2013, the creators did not even know that in a few years this solution would save them so much time and money: after the outbreak of the pandemic, New Zealand firmly established itself at the top of the list of the safest countries, and it was relatively safe to continue production in the same mode.
Filming in relatively safe New Zealand during the pandemic did not save the Avatar sequel from downtime. The filmmakers had to postpone the premiere of the film, which was supposed to be released in December 2021, for a year. James Cameron told about the reasons for the shift in the official Twitter of the picture.
A total of four more parts are planned to be released. And if everything goes according to plan with the second and third films, then there are problems with the fourth and fifth parts. This is confirmed by Cameron himself, who back in 2017 said in an interview that if the box office does not pay off the shooting, then they can not be expected to come out.
Director and filming
Back in 1994, Jace Cameron took his first steps in film production, drawing inspiration from "every science fiction book" he read as a child, as well as from the adventure novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. And now, several years after the overwhelming success of the first part of the motion picture, James Cameron, who shot the cult films: Terminator (1984), Aliens (1986), Titanic (1997), three-time Oscar winner, finally started to create a project, the release date of which was postponed all the time. The transfer is due to the fact that Cameron painstakingly wrote the script for as many as 3 parts of the sequel for more than 4 years. The director said the delays were beneficial because the design team had more time to work. Most of the actors, CEOs - they've all read the four scripts, so they know exactly what the destinies of their characters are: they know where they're going, they know how to act in the first two films now.

In preparation for the project, Cameron made several trips with the actors to the rainforests, and also dived to the bottom of the Mariana Trench himself to inspire him to create his documentary, as well as the creation of Pandora's marine world. Cameron also mentioned a new animation technique that he used in the production.
For the filming of the sequels, the MBS Media Campus in Southern California was rented for 5 years. The director himself wanted to install solar panels there, due to the energies of which he would have shot the film.
Comparing the themes of the sequels to the originals, Cameron stated that “it will be a natural continuation of all the themes, characters and spiritual victories. Basically, if you liked the first movie, you’ll love those movies, and if you hated it, you’ll probably hate the sequel. ” He later compared the sequels to the Godfather franchise, calling them a "generational saga."
On November 23, 2017, the director stated that the film crew had been taking tests with actors on underwater filming over the past month, and that the group was able to film the first of scenes involving six of their seven main child actors on November 14. Mixing underwater shooting and image capture is a feature that has never been there before; it took the team a year and a half to develop a new motion capture system.
Cameron noted that there is a possibility that the film can be shown in a "no glasses" format, although this is not entirely accurate. If this happens, it will be the first time in the history of cinema.
