Holidays help to get closer, get rid of negativity and fill you with new emotions. The most favorite of them are family ones. Many new ones have not yet received official status, but have already acquired their own traditions. These include Mother's or Father's Days, which appeared in the early twentieth century. And a little later they began to celebrate Daughter's Day - in 2024 it will be celebrated on April 25 on Thursday.
History of the holiday
There are several versions of how he came to Russia:
- From USA. At first it had a different name - Daughter and Son Labor Day. The idea was immediately recognized at the state level, and they were allowed to bring children to work in order to instill respect for work.But then the date was changed, and in order to raise the prestige of the profession and visit the place where parents work, they took August 11.
- From India. Parents were not happy about the birth of a female child in this country. In some castes and in poor families, girls were even considered a burden. Daughters Day helps to get rid of this prejudice.
- From Japan. The sacred meaning of the holiday is to distract evil spirits from babies. Celebrated annually on March 3.
There is no single opinion explaining the purpose of the celebration. According to one of them, feminist organizations, by giving a special status, expect to draw attention to the problems of girls, help them adapt and find their place in society, eliminate social and gender inequality.
But there is another explanation for the event, why it is necessary to allocate a special date for it. Parents never have enough time to show how much they love their daughter.And on April 25, they can congratulate her, caress her once again, show what place she occupies in the family, how everyone at home appreciates her.
Other girls days
International holiday - International Daughters Day, not attached to a specific number, it is celebrated annually on the fourth Sunday of September. You can look at the calendar, what date is World Daughter's Day in 2024 - 09.22.
And in the USA there is a holiday - National Daughters Day, national. He has a permanent date - 25.09.
Another International Day of Daughters, initiated by UNICEF - January 12th. Seminars are held on this date, devoting time to problems that only future successors of the family have to face.
In Japan, March 3 is celebrated as Hina Matsuri, Doll Day, with ever-changing traditions. At first, it was held to protect children from evil spirits - in noble families, spellcasters were invited to transfer all sorrows to paper men, and then the figures were burned.Now they arrange exhibitions of dolls, and the girls go to visit each other and treat themselves to sweets. They are given gifts and treated like adults.
In India, the National Day of Daughters is celebrated annually on January 24th. It was approved in 2008 at the official level in order to end gender inequality in society, and, most importantly, in the family.
International Day of the Girl was first celebrated on October 11, 2012. The initiative was put forward by representatives of the non-profit company Plan International, and during the UN General Assembly in 2011, a corresponding resolution was adopted.
How the holiday is celebrated
Knowing the date of Daughters' Day in 2024, parents will be able to buy gifts in advance. These can be small gifts:
- babies - dolls;
- for teenagers - a handbag or something from clothes;
- for girls - a certificate to a cosmetic store or spa.
Some schools already have traditions on April 25 to release the fair sex from classes:

- To hold seminars where girls communicate and tell what worries them when communicating with their parents. Family psychologists are invited to such forums.

In 2024, the holiday is celebrated before Easter. During it, the Orthodox adhere to the food restrictions of Great Lent, so noisy discos are not planned.
Psychologists and priests recommend on such an important day not only to spend more time with children in a family setting or take a walk, but also to talk with them about pressing problems. It is also advised to watch special programs dedicated to this day together.
You can set your own celebration traditions. In the morning, hug your daughter, say kind words to her, give a gift, cook a dish that she loves. Then discuss whether she wants to be with her family, go to a cafe or a movie, or invite her friends over. You need to attract a brother (brothers) to the congratulations, explain how good it is that they have a sister (or sisters).
