The results of the selection and draw for Euro 2024 football have been known since October 2022. In each group, five national teams will play among themselves for the right to participate in the main stage. Despite the fact that many people, after the covid postponement of the last tournaments, asked when the draw was, it went well and there is no information yet that any dates will be moved.
The draw and who will play with whom
The draw for qualification for Europe 2024 took place in October 2022. 53 teams were distributed according to the League of Nations rating. Initially, they were divided into 7 pots, due to which they should have been formed relatively equal in strength - with clear favorites and outsiders.
The results of the Euro 2024 qualifying draw were announced at 15:00 on October 9 in Frankfurt. All teams already know their opponents and can prepare for matches.
Winners and runners-up automatically advance to the final stage. They will take part in the battle for the main European trophy. The last three places will be determined in the play-offs - they go to third places.
Group A
Spain, Scotland, Norway, Cyprus, Georgia. Among the favorites, almost everyone singles out Spain. A strong team that performs well in international tournaments. With such rivals, she should show herself as well as possible.
There must be a serious fight for second place - Scotland and Norway are next in the FIFA rankings. Strong teams that can show good results. The rest are perceived as extras - they have practically no options for passing to the final stage.
Group B
France, Greece, Netherlands, Ireland, Gibr altar. The undisputed favorite is the French team. Should come out without a chance. A stellar line-up and a strong coach will allow them to beat almost every opponent in the class.
If the French fix the main problems and stop playing consoles at night, they have every chance to go through the rink on almost every one of their rivals. Should not meet serious resistance.
Netherlands are second. Only Greece can compete with them, but the probability of this is too low. The country is going through hard times, especially in terms of football.
Group C
England, Ukraine, Italy, Macedonia, M alta. The seeding is unequal, with two clear favorites, but a struggle is possible here. England and Italy are in contention for first place, depending on the shape of the players by the start of the qualifiers.
Ukraine can show a decent fight, but rather because of the support of the stands and the general motivation of the players. Not considered one of the favorites, even at this stage, but the Ukrainians might get lucky if one of the two stronger teams arrives in very bad shape.
Group D
Croatia, Wales, Turkey, Latvia, Armenia. Most unpredictable. On paper - an easy way out for the Croats, but they can be resisted by two rivals at once: Turkey and Wales. In the FIFA rankings, they are in very distant positions, but looking at the last games of the teams in major championships, you no longer know what to expect.
It is highly likely that Croatia will take 1-2 place, and there will be a serious struggle for the rest. Most likely, the Wales team will need Gareth Bale in his best shape and far from having a golf club.
Group E
Czech Republic, Poland, Albania, Moldova, Faroe Islands. A highly controversial crop. Poland is the main favorite because of the quality of the players, but the Czech Republic is not much inferior to them. The dark horse - Albania, is in the middle of the FIFA rankings, but does not show much results on the world stage.
Two obvious outsiders - the Faroe Islands and Moldova. They will become passing rivals for the other three. Everything will be decided in head-to-head matches, and if the Albanians can take points from one of the two teams, it could be very interesting.
Group F
Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Estonia, Azerbaijan. On paper, the Belgians look like clear favourites, especially against such opponents, but even qualifying could be too difficult. The old players have long ceased to hope that with each other they can achieve something. The scandals in Qatar are another confirmation of this.
Austria and Sweden are strong strong middle peasants who can really compete with the star team. Most likely, one of them will even be able to take points, which should decide the outcome of the confrontation.
Group G
Serbia, Montenegro, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania. It can be considered the weakest set of teams without a clear strong leader. Serbia is in 29th place in the Fifa rankings - this is the highest figure among all.
Serbia, Hungary and Montenegro will continue to fight for a ticket. Serbs are required to advance to the next stage, at least from second place.
Group H
Denmark, Slovenia, Finland, Ireland, San Maino, Kazakhstan. The absolute favorite is the Danes. With such rivals, they look at an unattainable level. The main fight will be for the second place - the Finns and the Slovenians will decide who is guaranteed to go to the next stage.
Ireland can try to surprise. Especially considering their performances at all international tournaments, but very little is believed in the second miracle.
Group I
Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Kosovo, Belarus, Andorra. The Swiss can also be considered the strongest and by a wide margin. They are followed by the Romanians and only then by Israel. You can't expect much competition here - the teams are too unequal. Most likely, representatives of Eastern Europe must pass from second place.
Belarus may try to resist someone, but nothing more. Not even considered average. The representatives of Kosovo and Israel are obliged to beat them without a chance, and the only passer is Andorra.
Group J
Portugal, Bosnia, Iceland, Slovakia, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. Another seed, where there was one very strong player and high competition for second place. Bosnia, Slovakia and Iceland will fight for the opportunity to pass directly. They believe more in the Bosnians, although the Slovaks can show themselves well.
Representatives of Iceland have every chance to show a decent game, but Luxembourg and Liechtenstein are clear outsiders, and by a wide margin. They can only try to snap and take points from someone, but nothing more.
What about national teams and Germany
The Germans are considered the hosts of the tournament, so according to the regulations, they go straight to the final stage. They will not compete with other teams. Given the performance at the last World Championship, Germany made a good gift.
All teams, including the national team, are officially excluded from all UEFA competitions. The decision was made on February 28, 2022 and confirmed on July 15. Athletes were not allowed to use even a neutral flag - which only confirms the seriousness of the sports association.
The draw for Euro 2024 football passed without much incident. Almost all teams gathered relatively equal opponents - clear favorites and outsiders. The main fight for the next stage will be for the second place. It is unlikely that any sensation will happen at this stage.
