DIY scent (for home or car)

For the New Year, it is customary to give various small gif.webpts or small cards. Sometimes a gif.webpt can be bought in a store, sometimes it can be made by hand. For lovers of the latter option, there is a great offer that will allow you to move away from the usual cycle of various mugs, shampoos, candles and the rest of the list of "Standard gif.webpts for the New Year". Why not try making your own fragrance? It is suitable for home or car, and looks like a cute New Year's souvenir. Moreover, making it is not difficult at all.

What do you need?

The list of products required for work fits in just a few points:

  • Baking soda - 2 glasses;
  • Cornstarch - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 whole glass and another quarter;
  • Essential oils - 7-15 drops (depending on the desired intensity of the aroma).
  • Liquid food coloring or watercolors are optional.

Making a fragrance

The first step is to prepare the dough itself, from which fragrant figures will subsequently be cut or molded. This process will not take long - five minutes will be enough. The main thing is to constantly stir the dough being prepared.

In a saucepan of a suitable size, water, baking soda and starch are mixed, and the saucepan is set over medium heat.

Dye can be added at this stage if desired.

After about another minute, the mass brought to a boil will begin to boil and bubble, so you have to scrape it off the walls a little.

Turn off the stove. Now you need to add cinnamon oil or any other essential oils. The aromas of the New Year are traditionally considered:

  • cinnamon,
  • spruce,
  • mandarin,
  • orange,
  • vanilla.

Natural essential oils should be added after removing the pot from the stove or turning it off. Otherwise, due to the high temperature, the oils will immediately evaporate and not remain in the mass.

After another couple of minutes, a completely prepared ball of dough will lie in the pan. Put it out of a hot saucepan into another dish and let it cool down.

The cooled dough is rolled out to the desired thickness, and then, using a knife, a special cutter or a mold, figures are cut out. The resulting products are left alone until completely dry.

Possible errors and tips

The dough must be cooled down before starting work. Cool but not harden. If you start working with a hot product, most likely, most of the "gif.webpt" will remain on the knife, and instead of a beautiful aroma you will get a shapeless mass. The hardened dough, on the contrary, will not succumb to any influence, so it should be periodically stirred during the cooling process.

To avoid sticking of the dough to the work surface, it should be treated with corn or potato starch - like flour when sculpting pies or dumplings.

You need to dry the finished jewelry on a flat hard surface - parchment in this case will not be a good solution, since the moisture released by the dough will wrinkle the paper and the product will dry out in the form of "wrinkles".

After a day of drying, the products must be turned over. As a rule, they completely dry out in two to three days.

Such a home fragrance will be a great addition to the atmosphere of the upcoming holiday. And also an unusual souvenir, decoration for a scrap card, Christmas tree or New Year's table.
