Star, paper cut stencil: 100 templates for free

Among the symbols of the New Year and Christmas, the most popular is the star. It often decorates the top of the New Year tree, the Magi saw it as a sign of the coming of Jesus to earth, it looks like snowflakes softly falling outside the window on a winter evening, and even the flowers of the Christmas poinsettia resemble the outlines of this geometric figure. Therefore, a paper star stencil can be used to create winter decor and themed decoration of rooms with your own hands.

How to make an asterisk stencil?

To create paper stencils of stars, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • thick paper or cardboard - the required size will depend on the size of the template, but most of the options proposed below will easily fit on an A4 sheet; do not use ordinary office paper, it is better to take material with a density of 200 g per 1 m2;
  • scissors and / or a paper cutter - these tools must be sharp so that they can easily cut the material without leaving torn sloppy edges;
  • backing - a special backing will protect the table from scratches during work, but if it is not there, then you can use an ordinary wooden chopping board, only dry and clean.

As you can see from the above list, everything you need to create paper stars can be found in every home. The sequence of work will also be extremely simple:

  1. First, you should transfer your favorite star drawing to paper. This can be done in two ways. If you have a printer on hand, you can download any of the templates below for free and print it. If there is no such technical possibility, you can redraw your favorite star yourself or by attaching a sheet to the screen, carefully trace the drawing with a pencil along the contour, without pressing on the screen.
  2. After that, it remains only to cut out the stencil, placing the printout or drawing on a protective substrate. For contours and large parts, ordinary scissors are suitable, but to cut an asterisk with openwork monograms inside, you will need a special mock knife.

A star stencil can be made with your child, children usually like this activity, but before starting work, you should devote a few minutes to working safely with scissors and a cutter to avoid injury.

How to use paper stars to decorate your home?

Three-dimensional paper stars are traditionally used to decorate windows in Sweden, and small LED garlands are often inserted into them to make them glow at night. You can try to make the same decoration, or you can connect stars of different sizes with fishing line or thin but strong thread and make a garland in the form of a falling waterfall. Such a star waterfall is perfect for decorating windows or doorways.

Paper stencils are perfect for decorating walls, ceilings, or window panes. They can be colored and glued with different stars, making an imitation of the starry sky or recreating the plot of a winter fairy tale. Such stencils are also suitable for painting the walls themselves, if this is provided for by the design of the room (for example, in the nursery). To do this, the templates must be fixed to the surface with masking tape and a layer of paint should be applied on top, and carefully removed after drying.

If you use paper stars as a decoration for window panes, you can easily glue them using ordinary soapy water. And in this case, it is better to apply a winter stencil drawing with an inexpensive white toothpaste and a foam sponge. Such methods will allow you to quickly and easily put the windows in order after the holidays.

A paper star stencil is a simple and affordable option for creating interior decorations and not only in the New Year or Christmas theme, so you should not postpone the creative process until winter, it is better to start it early and with your children.
