DIY crafts for Christmas 2022: to school, kindergarten

Often on the eve of a particular holiday, the child, and with him the parents, are puzzled by the need to do thematic creative work. After reading the next article, no one will have to puzzle over what crafts to cook for Christmas, because the material in it contains not only a description of the basic techniques for working with paper, fabric, clay, threads, but also a lot of photo ideas for inspiration.

Angels and not only from paper for Christmas

Paper is the most readily available material to create beautiful Christmas items.

In the process, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • paper - you can use the most diverse (from white office paper to bright packaging sheets);
  • scissors - they must be sharp, and in some cases also with sharp blades at the ends;
  • glue - you can use PVA or glue stick;
  • a curly hole punch or scissors will help you quickly create beautiful and neat openwork patterns on blanks;
  • artificial pearls, beads, various ribbons and so on as decorations for crafts.

Traditional Christmas paper crafts are angels. Their templates can be printed or drawn by yourself. For ideas on how to decorate such a paper angel, see our selection of finished artworks. Such crafts can be assembled into a garland, hung on a Christmas tree as toys, or used for a three-dimensional panel.

In addition to paper angels, you can make a volumetric star - a traditional decoration for this holiday in Sweden. Cut out paper figures can be used to create traditional Bible scenes, Christmas greeting cards, and more.

Airy beauty crochet

Delicate openwork angels will not leave anyone indifferent. They can be placed on the branches of a Christmas tree or placed on windows as decorations for Christmas.

Usually, such Christmas tree decorations are made from white yarn, but other delicate light pastel colors (peach, lilac, pink) can also be used. Avoid bright saturated colors.

As for the requirements for the composition of the thread, ideally smooth yarn made of cotton, linen or silk is suitable, but you do not need to use acrylic in any case, since this thread always has villi.

The thinner the thread, the more delicate the decoration will turn out, but it will be difficult to work with too thin yarn. The optimum thickness is 400-550 m / 100 g. The hook should be suitable and also thin - from 0.9 mm.

Do-it-yourself figures can be both flat and voluminous. To give them the necessary hardness, the work is well washed with liquid detergent and well starchy. Then put on a suitable base and allow to dry.

Small details can add a unique charm to the finished work: the edging of gold or silver threads along the edge of the wings and clothes, beads made of artificial pearls or beads.

Christmas bead crafts

Various beads and beads can be used not only to decorate finished works, but also as the main material for creating Christmas key rings or pendants that can decorate both the interior and, for example, a school backpack.

The weaving pattern is extremely simple and will be understandable even for a beginner. Work begins, as a rule, from the head, smoothly dropping down.

For a Christmas angel made of beads, you will need beads of different colors and sizes, thin wire or monofilament, a needle. The wire suspension will be more rigid, and when using monofilament, the figure will be more mobile.You cannot take ordinary sewing threads for the base, they are not designed for such a load and will quickly break.

Very important! If a child prepares such a craft for Christmas in kindergarten, then you cannot leave him unattended during work so that small parts are not swallowed or get into the respiratory tract.

Simple pasta crafts for Christmas

How nice it would be if you didn't have to cut, sculpt, sew, etc., but just take the finished ones and assemble them as a designer. This kind of work would be especially suitable for children who go to the garden. It turns out that such crafts are made from pasta.

A wide variety of pasta of different shapes allows you to unleash your imagination to the fullest. In front of the child, you can lay out the available parts of the pasta designer and invite him to come up with which Christmas angel to fold out of them. Christmas trees from pasta and pasta snowflakes are made according to the same principle.

You can connect the parts together with hot glue in a gun or any other polymer-based glue (for example, Dragon glue). The final stage of the work is coloring. For this, acrylic paints or gouache are suitable. You can use silver or gold spray paint.

We work with plasticine and polymer clay

Plasticine, as a material for modeling and modeling, has been known for a long time, but even now children are not fading away interest in it. They love to play with him, creating interesting crafts for school and not only. Moreover, recently many new types of this material have appeared: air, ball and solidifying plasticine.

From plasticine and polymer clay, you can create pendants for a Christmas tree or a fridge magnet in a Christmas theme. For this, in addition to the main material, you will need:

  • a plank so as not to stain the table;
  • stacks for modeling; if they are not there, you can get by with the materials at hand (toothpick, cookie cutters, lace, etc.);
  • magnetic tape to make a fridge magnet;
  • a pin with a round end - fasteners for the tape, if the toy is then sent to the Christmas tree.

Toys made from hardening plasticine should be left at room temperature and wait until they harden. Products made of polymer clay will need to be baked later. This can be done in an oven, microwave, or airfryer.

Light felt crafts

Felt is easy to work with due to the fact that this material does not crumble, like other fabrics, and also holds its shape quite well. The details of the product can not only be sewn with even the simplest hand seam, but also joined using polymer glue (for example, "Moment Kristall").

The set of necessary materials and tools for work is the same as for making toys from fabric, and the sequence of actions will be as follows:

  1. Prepare paper patterns for details of future crafts. They can be printed on a printer or drawn by yourself. You can immediately add seam allowances to the paper pattern.
  2. Cut the prepared parts on felt of the appropriate color. You can trace the patterns with crayon, a simple pencil, a water marker or a thin bar of soap.
  3. Cut and connect the parts together with a needle and thread or glue. Fill the volumetric toy with holofiber.

Decorate the finished toy with ribbons, lace, beads and other decorative details. Angels can draw facial features with a felt-tip pen.

Openwork paper work (Quilling)

Light and airy Christmas crafts can not only be knitted, but also made of paper using the quilling technique. The main material in this case is thin paper ribbons. Christmas angels made from them look as weightless as crocheted ones.

For such Christmas decorations, plain white office paper, which is cut into thin strips, is suitable, but you can go the other way - buy ready-made paper strips in a creative store. These blanks are rolled into rolls, which are given different shapes, and then assembled into a composition.

The most interesting thing is that it is not necessary to glue the parts together. You can put a sheet with the silhouette of the finished picture in a file, grease it liberally with glue, and then lay out the details on it. After the glue dries, the finished figurine will easily separate from the base.

Christmas brush

Those who are good at drawing or are just studying can set the appropriate Christmas mood by painting a picture with traditional symbols of the holiday. For her, you can use acrylic or watercolor paints, gouache. The choice will depend on what the image will be applied to.

Don't be limited to paper or canvas. As an area for creativity, you can choose a saw cut from a tree, a flat stone brought from the sea, a clay plate or an old clock that you have long wanted to update. In order for such an element of decor to retain its attractive appearance longer, the image on top must be opened with varnish.

Vytynanka for Sunday school

In winter, the windows can be covered not only with frosty patterns, but also with cutouts from paper, which will be able to acquaint in detail the biblical history of this holiday to Sunday school students. To do this, you only need to print or draw on your own templates illustrating scenes of the birth of the Savior, and then be patient to carefully cut out each curl.

For cutting, use a sharp clerical knife or fine-bladed scissors. In order not to spoil the table during work, you need to work by placing, if not a special rug, then at least a wooden kitchen board under the workpiece.

You can attach ready-made protrusions to the window using a soapy solution. This will make it easier to clean the glass when it's time to remove the jewelry. You can complement the window composition with curls and snowflakes drawn using a stencil and toothpaste.

Jewelry made of fabric, threads and ribbons

Using the kazanshi technique, you can create not only hair ornaments, but also Christmas angel pendants on the Christmas tree. This will require decorative ribbons, beads, glue and a little imagination.

Almost everyone knows how to make a snowman out of threads by pasting a balloon with them, but you can make a craft for school and inside such a balloon from white threads that imitate a snow cover. In the middle, you can place an angel or figurines of Mary, Joseph and a baby, made using any of the techniques listed above.

You can make a Christmas angel toy using the principle of a reeled doll, and if you have a sewing machine and the appropriate skills at home, then sew an interior doll in the Tilda style.

Crafts for Christmas is a good way to spend time interesting and usefully. After all, the finished work will be a wonderful decoration at home or a Christmas present for loved ones in honor of this bright holiday.
