The secular holiday, called the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, was first held in July 2008. The chamomile flower was chosen as the symbol of this holiday, and its main celebrations are traditionally held in Murom.
History
It is believed that the historical prototypes of the saints are Prince David Yuryevich and his wife Euphrosinia, who ruled the Murom principality in 1205-1228. In particular, Russian historians Vasily Klyuchevsky and Yevgeny Golubinsky wrote about this in their writings. The day of their memory is celebrated on July 8 (June 25, old style), the day of the transfer of the relics - on the Sunday before September 19 (6). The parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) believe that with their prayers they bless those entering into marriage.
Probably, it is no coincidence that this date was approved in 2008, because it was he who was proclaimed the "Year of the Family". The holiday is timed to Saints Peter and Fevronia.
The initiators of the introduction of this celebration were the residents of the city of Murom. It was there that a couple of centuries ago the family of Saints Peter and Fevronia lived, patrons of the Christian marriage, their remains are buried in one of the monasteries of Murom. The couple spent their last years of life in prayer. Their bond was so strong that they passed away one day.
