Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness is the 28th film and the first horror film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The director's chair in the film was taken by Scott Derrickson, who worked on the creation of such mystical films as Sinister and Deliver Us from the Evil One. According to him, the sequel to "Doctor Strange" will be truly scary and creepy. Also, the filmmakers say that many familiar characters from other Marvel films will appear in it, including the appearance of Loki, about whose time travel the mini-series "Loki" has already been filmed. Also, the plot of the new part of the story about the brilliant Stephen Strange will be closely intertwined with another Disney + project, Wanda / Vision.

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr. Stephen Strange continues to investigate the Time Stones. But an old friend who has become an enemy seeks to destroy every sorcerer on Earth. He interferes with Strange's plans and forces him to release the real evil (perhaps it will be a Nightmare / Nightmare).

Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Stephen Strange continues to search for one of the Infinity Stones - the Stone of Time, but will face events that will awaken "unimaginable evil." The antagonist of the doctor will be an old acquaintance who will be classified from friend to enemy and thus become the main villain of the film.

Production and filming

Director and screenwriter Scott Derrickson announced plans to shoot a sequel to Doctor Strange in October 2016. He signed a contract to direct the second part in December 2018. By that time, Cumberbatch and Wong had confirmed their participation. In July 2019, the name of the comic strip was revealed and Elizabeth Olsen's participation in the film was announced. In October, Jade Bartlett was commissioned to write the script. In January 2020, Derrickson pulled out of filming due to creative differences. Filming began in November 2020 in London, but was suspended in January due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
