DIY crafts from newspaper tubes: a lesson of weaving from newspaper tubes, a photo, a master class for beginners

Today, hearing the phrase "wicker chair" or "wicker hat", there is a feeling of a garden, a beach, summer, in a word, relaxation.

Weaving is one of the oldest forms of manual labor. The vine was used to make furniture, chairs and cots, shoes and hats, baskets and chests. The need for these things has disappeared, and now it is not a craft, but a real art and is perceived as something light and beautiful.

Currently, the world produces a colossal amount of paper, most of which, after a few days of use, becomes trash - newspapers and magazines.

Using this material for crafts, instead of vines, we make beautiful and useful things without polluting the planet.

Preparing the paper vine

The work is not difficult, but time consuming. First of all, you need to prepare the starting material: paper tubes. You can use newspapers, magazines, old notebooks. The most convenient paper is newsprint.

  1. Need a knitting needle and PVA glue.
  2. The paper is cut into pieces.
  3. The size depends on the size of the item you decide to make.
  4. It should be a rectangle with an aspect ratio of 1: 4 or 1: 5.
  5. The thinner the paper, the larger the sheet can be. The size is convenient for work 5 (10) -25 (35) cm.
  6. At the corner of the paper strip, put the knitting needle at an angle of 45 degrees and twist the knitting needle into the paper.
  7. Glue the edge of the twisted tube, remove the knitting needle. Leave the glued tubes to dry.
  8. The finished tubes are obtained with one narrower tip and one wider.
  9. We use this difference when it is necessary to increase the length: grease the wider end with glue and insert the narrow one.

It is important to allow the glued parts to dry.

  1. For some products, flat tubes are used. To do this, on the prepared and dried tubes, with pressure, draw a ruler or pencil, "ironing out".
  2. You can paint the tubes before starting work, or you can make a craft and then paint.
  3. After painting, the paper becomes water-resistant and more durable.
  4. For painting, you can use acrylic paint, and if this product is intended for the garden, you can use paint or enamel used for painting wood products.
  5. It is more difficult to work with, but forms a film that protects the paper from water.

For beginner decorators

Crafts for beginners are boxes, vases, baskets.

Basket or box without weaving

  1. From prepared flat tubes we make circles 2-3 cm in size.
  2. To do this, roll the finished tube, starting from the tip, into a wheel and fix the outer tip with glue.
  3. You can make a wheel with a hole inside, you can fill it.
  4. When the prepared wheels are dry, we glue them with hot silicone, collecting the selected shape.
  5. If this is a rectangular box, glue a rectangle from the wheels for the bottom, walls and lid.
  6. We also assemble the finished parts with hot silicone.
  7. We paint with spray paint, decorate with ribbons, lace, beads.
  8. If it's a round basket, use a saucepan or bowl to serve as a base for shaping.
  9. We glue the wheels together using the form as a support.

Paper vine frame

Straw crafts for beginners is a photo frame.

  1. We use cardboard as a base.
  2. You can glue the tubes parallel to the edge in the form of a frame, you can glue it with a herringbone, like French parquet.
  3. After drying, cover with spray paint, decorate with ribbon, lace, beads - all ideas are good, and insert a photo.

Using plastic tubes

The original idea of a photo frame, painting, wall panel is the use of plastic cocktail tubes.

  1. The tubes of the color you like are cut into pieces.
  2. The pieces are laid out on cardboard, which serves as the basis for the craft.
  3. Can be laid out in a pattern, or simply sprinkled in a mess.
  4. Carefully cover with a cotton napkin and press down for a few seconds with a non-hot iron.
  5. The tubes will melt and form a uniform plastic surface.
  6. Jagged edges need to be trimmed.
  7. Decorated to the taste of the master and the frame is ready.

Types of weaving baskets from paper tubes

There are many types of weaving. Here is some of them.

  • Spiral weaving. The tubes are built up and threaded through the base or racks as one endless vine.
  • Layered weaving. Two tubes go around the racks, so that one stays in front of her and the other behind her. At the next counter change.
  • Rope technique. The stripes are intertwined with the posts and with each other.

Weaving starts from the bottom. This can be a wicker bottom, or you can use cardboard.

  1. Cut 2 circles or ovals from cardboard of the required size.
  2. On one of them, at the same distance, tubes are glued, which will be upright.
  3. The distance between the posts should be no more than 2-3 cm for strength.
  4. The second circle (oval) is glued on top, thus covering the places where the racks are glued.
  5. Rack tubes are bent upward. You can use a saucepan or bucket, which will serve as a form for the future product.
  6. We fix the tip of the tube with glue at the base of the stand, start weaving, building up the tubes. Racks are built up as needed.
  7. At the end of the work, the ends of the tubes of the rack are greased with glue and bent inside the basket.

Christmas crafts

For the new year, you can make an original craft out of paper tubes: Christmas tree decorations.

  1. Corrugated cardboard is used. Herringbone-shaped blanks are cut out of cardboard.
  2. They are glued horizontally, or vertically, or diagonally (as you like) paper tubes.
  3. All irregularities are cut off. Children should be involved in making these crafts. The finished Christmas tree is painted with acrylic (safe) paint.
  4. Green, gold, silver, or whatever the master wants.
  5. And the most enjoyable part of the job: decorating the Christmas tree (gluing with hot silicone) bows, beads, ribbons, tinsel, and whatever comes to mind.
