Do-it-yourself wooden crafts step by step (135 photos): a lesson in working with wood for beginners (master class)

DIY wood crafts can be both complex and simple to perform. Wood is quite easy to handle, so you can start working with it with light products, gradually moving on to more complex objects.

Very often, parents think about how to choose wooden crafts for children in order to participate with them at an exhibition in a kindergarten or school. In fact, together with the parents, the child can make a simple wooden product.

Crafts in the kindergarten

A master class on creating wood crafts can be very simple when it comes to working together with your child. Many parents are afraid to take this material for work, believing that it is too difficult and the child may not be able to cope.

However, woodworking is very rewarding and develops both creative skills and fine motor skills. In addition, there are simple options, for example, an applique made from twigs.

For work you will need:

  • Small wooden twig;
  • Cardboard;
  • Glue;
  • Scissors;
  • Dried leaves.

The thin twig will be the trunk of the tree. You can cut it with scissors as you like, changing the size and shape. The twig must be glued to a thick sheet of cardboard and wait until the glue dries.

After that, you can stick the leaves on the "branches" of the tree. This will be his magnificent crown. Leaves can be glued tightly both whole and crushed. A simple craft is ready.

Photo frame made of wood

There are several options for how to make a craft out of wood to make a photo frame:

  • Using small wooden slats to make the base and frame for the photo;
  • Use twigs to frame the photo;
  • Instead of twigs or rods, take small cuts.

In any case, a base will be needed where the materials for the sides will be attached. It can be either a thick sheet of cardboard that will not bend under a wooden material, or a small sheet of chipboard.

  1. It is important to measure the required size on two sheets, one of which will serve as the back and the second as the front.
  2. The back part remains unchanged, and not the front part, you need to cut out the window for the photo.
  3. The rest of the material is glued - cuts, branches or wooden slats.

Finally, you can insert glass into the resulting frame so that dust does not get on the photo.

Figures from saw cuts

In the photo of wood crafts, you can see that figures from saw cuts are different. It all depends on the degree of skill and the tools at hand.

It is worth starting with the simplest figures, for which there is a step-by-step instruction.

You can make a very beautiful owl from the cuts. For this you will need:

  • 4 saw cuts - one should be large, one medium and two small;
  • Two drink bottle caps;
  • Nails or self-tapping screws that will attach the parts of the owl. You can also take glue that can glue the wood if the owl does not stand outside;
  • A saw or ax, which will be needed to halve one of the cuts.

The largest saw cut will serve as the base and body of the craft. Two small saw cuts are the eyes. The caps are the pupils. The middle cut needs to be divided in half and attached to the sides - these are the wings.

To make the owl look like a real one, you can also make eyebrows for it that will hang over your eyes. To do this, you need to take an old bag and twist it a little, cutting off at the edges. And then fix the resulting part above the eyes.

  1. Applique mosaic. It will turn out to be quite voluminous and large, because each one hundred saw cut takes up a lot of space, even the smallest.There are a lot of ideas for wood crafts in this format. Someone makes a sun out of cuts, someone puts a heart out of them. The mosaic can be performed both on a vertical surface, for example, a wall, or serve as a separate composition. Then you will need to find some kind of solid basis for the mosaic, lay out the craft, and then cut the applique along the contour of the product.
  2. Hares from saw cuts - the algorithm of work is similar to an owl's craft. You will need 2 large cuts for the body, one smaller for the head, two large oval cuts for the ears and three small oval cuts for the paws and tail. Between the two cuts of the body, you need to place the head, tail and fix them. Then attach ears on both sides of the head, and paws at the bottom of the body.

Saws can be used as you like, different animal figures are obtained from them very well. The main thing is that such a craft can be made with a child. When working together with an adult, you will get an excellent result.

Cutting board

This type of craft can be done already by an older child, a schoolboy, or a novice master.

  1. You can take either a solid block of wood and cut a board of the required size from it, or glue several small plates together.
  2. For gluing wood you need a special glue - clamps.
  3. For the glue to set, you need to firmly press the boards together and fix for some time.
  4. After the glue dries, you need to walk with a plane on the surface of the board. This will make it smooth.
  5. If you need to reshape the board, do it with a jigsaw.
  6. Do not forget to drill a hole on the top so that you can store the board hanging.
  7. If the board has been cut, you also need to do the processing of its edges and ends.
  8. Now you will need sandpaper, which can be used to sand all the edges.
  9. Once the board is finished and shaped, you can coat it with a creosote antiseptic so that it can be used for food purposes.

Multilayer crafts

Such crafts, according to the principle of work, resemble crafts from wood cuts. Only in this case, you need to shape the material by cutting out all parts of the product along the contour.

Stencils for crafts can be found in any sources, if possible, you can draw it yourself.

For example, you can take a polar bear. It will have 3 layers.

  1. The first is the back of the body,
  2. The second is the front part of the body with paws,
  3. The upper, third layer is already the head.
