The summer vacation of the 2021-2022 academic year will be, by tradition, the longest vacation for students. Despite the fact that in our country there are no uniform norms for regulating the educational process, all educational institutions, when drawing up a vacation schedule, adhere to a number of basic provisions. And although they are all advisory in nature, schools strictly adhere to them. Therefore, parents and students already know how much is left to study before the summer holidays.
When will summer vacation be in 2022?
Before the start of the new school year, the school administration draws up a calendar schedule based on the regulations of the Ministry of Education. It displays the terms of training, and also spelled out the date from which the holidays begin and end.
When drawing up a vacation schedule, there are several rules that all educational institutions in our country adhere to:
- any vacation must start on Monday;
- summer vacation should be given at least two months;
- exams or practices in June must be scheduled in advance;
- despite the dates set in the curriculum for the start of school holidays, they can be postponed for 2 weeks with mandatory prior notification of all participants in the educational process (teachers, students, parents).
In matters of drawing up the educational process, schools are endowed with a certain autonomy. Therefore, the beginning and the end of studies in different educational institutions may not coincide. But already in September, all participants in the educational process know how many days are left before the summer holidays.
Summer Vacation Dates
The fourth quarter ends with the last bell, which falls on May 25 in the 2021-2022 academic year. Traditionally, the first to go on vacation are elementary school students (immediately after the last bell), as well as the middle level. Graduation classes finish their studies on May 31, after which they begin to pass exams.
The end date of summer holidays in our country is August 31, since September 1 is considered the beginning of a new academic year every year.
Holidays for trimester studies
A new approach in education, which is used in some schools in our country, is trimester education. The vacation schedule for schoolchildren is somewhat different. According to the 2021-2022 academic calendar, each trimester consists of two modules, separated by a week of vacation.
The second module of the third trimester ends on May 15, after which students begin to take exams. As with the traditional approach, students are allowed to rest after the last call.
Summer vacation and practice
Not all students go on summer holidays, as many classes take exams or practice at the beginning of June. Moreover, attending practice depends on the educational institution. Routine broom or rake work should be voluntary as it is not part of the curriculum.
But practice can be part of the educational process, and then attending it is mandatory for all students. This trend is observed in specialized gymnasiums and lyceums. At the end of the practice, a mark is given that affects the overall score. Therefore, the rest for students of such institutions is postponed for about a month.
Graduation grades 9 and 11 are taught until May 31, as teachers conduct additional lessons to prepare for the exams. The entire first month of summer, students take the OGE or the Unified State Exam. And in July-August, entrance exams and enrollment are held. Therefore, for graduates, summer vacations are greatly reduced.
Summer holiday restrictions due to coronavirus
The past 2020 has brought significant changes to the educational process of all schools.In connection with the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the requirements for organizing children's recreation have been revised and strengthened. These rules were signed by the head of Rospotrebnadzor and extended until January 1, 2022 inclusive.
They contain the following provisions:
- The requirements for the work of children's camps are prescribed (maintenance of the kitchen, regular cleaning, air disinfection).
- According to clause 3.3 of the Resolution, children can only rest within the limits of their residence. This means that schoolchildren from Moscow or Vladimir will not be able to go to summer camps in the south of our country. This causes serious damage to children's camps in the Krasnodar Territory or the Crimea, focused on receiving guests.
- The next serious prohibition is to limit the number of vacationers in each group to 50% of the usual capacity. Many children's camps were unable to open last summer, as the restrictions imposed by Rospotrebnadzor were impossible for them.
The inconvenience due to coronavirus restrictions was also experienced by parents who did not know when the summer races would be, and could not plan a children's holiday last year. The dates for the start of the arrival at the camps were constantly postponed. And in order to make up for their own losses, many institutions asked for an advance payment, although it was not entirely clear whether summer holidays would be organized for children.
Since there is no trend towards stabilization of the situation with the coronavirus, severe restrictions will remain throughout this year. And it is difficult to predict when the summer holidays 2021-2022 will begin and how the summer holidays will be organized next year.
