Every year, the city that will receive this status is selected on a competitive basis, while experts take into account the availability of venues for mass festivities, the experience of holding similar events, as well as the level of development of the network of cultural institutions, the activity and desire of the regional leadership to organize the holiday brightly and spectacularly.

In the coming winter, the capital of the New Year 2022 in Russia will move to Nizhny Novgorod. The official ceremony of passing the baton from Kaluga to Nizhny Novgorod took place on January 9, 2021. The city representatives were given the main symbol of the project - the Crystal Snowflake.

Festive events in Nizhny Novgorod in the status of the official "New Year's capital of Russia" will start in December 2021 and will continue all New Year's holidays in 2022.
Important! New Year's entertainment for residents and guests of Nizhny Novgorod will be held from December 7, 2021 to January 7, 2022. Everyone expects from the city no less bright and original celebration than its predecessors suggested.
It is known that 15 locations will be prepared for the 2022 meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, where large-scale festive events will be held:
