Before the wedding, you need to complete the painting at the registry office. The priest may require a marriage certificate. This is explained as follows: if the registry office has registered the newlyweds, then this indicates that none of them has been scheduled with someone else. In addition, the registry office refuses to list the insane and close relatives, which is also very important for the church.

Why the church can refuse a wedding.

There are a number of factors in the Church that can interfere with a wedding. Most likely, you will be refused a wedding if:

  • on Tuesdays, Thursdays (on the eve of fast days - Wednesday and Friday) and on Saturday (on the eve of Easter Sunday - Sunday);
  • on Easter, on the eve of the twelve and great holidays. Weddings on the twelve days are not prohibited, but undesirable. We strive to live the day of the common church great holiday together with the Church, not overshadowing the church joy with our little personal joy, our little personal needs. If it is necessary to get married on these days, an agreement with the priest is required;
  • on the eve of patronal temple feasts (each temple has its own patronal feasts);
  • in Cheese week, during Christmas time and Easter (Bright) week. Weddings in the weeks leading up to Great Lent and other continuous weeks are not prohibited, but undesirable.
  • during the Great, Petrov, Dormition and Nativity fasts;
  • on the days (and on the eve) of a strict one-day fast: the Beheading of John the Baptist - September 11 and the Exaltation of the Lord's Cross - September 27;
  • at night.

Exceptions to these rules can only be made by the ruling bishop. If the wedding was performed on a day when it is prohibited by the church charter, then this does not invalidate the sacrament.
